Over here we've today voted no to a change to the constitution to acknowledge the indigenous first nations people. Only been here 65,000 years but we can't find our way to put them in our 120 year old document.

I am sick of bloody welcome to country ceremonies before you can do anything. Business meetings, sporting events, any bloody thing. Takes up half the day.
Here in Oz, we already have 7 or so Indigenous related govt boards to cater for 3% of the population.
Our Indigenous already receive 35-55 billion dollars a year but nobody knows where the money goes, certainly not to the people who need it.
l don’t believe in putting one group of people up on a pedestal and granting them more rights than everyone else…… that will divide the nation.
Australia is made up of 137 nationalities and we are all equal. Even some our Indigenous leader we against it.
l’m glad the Voice was voted out. We certainly don’t need another layer of government, having to approve everything and anything put forward by our pollies, not to mention paying rent.
Anyway, rant over, commonsense prevails.

If you spend 33-55 billion and the money doesn't get to where it should isn't it sensible to try and find another way to get it where it should get to? Rather than stay with the current system which you correctly point out doesn't work.

Read between the lines and listen to what the activists really want.
Being acknowledged in the constitution is only a fraction of it. Look how they have stopped people going to Ayes Rick, now it’s Mt Warning etc. There is no mention of all of us working together, it’s all one way traffic, it’s all take and no give.
Australia is for all, not just some. They want a Treaty, they want Rent, they stated that many times over. How many times do we have to say, Sorry?
As Aboriginal senator Jacinta Price for the No campaign said, ‘we are not victims, we need to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and get out and have a go…… She is right, dam right.
I sincerely hope she is our PM one day, a no nonsense straight talkin Aussie who doesn’t want to be treated differently. Likewise other Indigenous leaders for the No campaign.
The Burneys & Albaneses of this world complain about over representation of Indigenous in jails and how it’s the systems fault. What about taking blame for their own actions and stop blaming others.
l tell you a story about an old auntie of mine, she was robbed taking the church takings by a serial repeat indigenous offender but caught on video by a passer by. The police said, finally they have proof of this person offending and were confident of locking him away post court appearance. The judge let him off, again …. to continue offending. There lies the problem that is happening all round Australia. People have had enough, we should all be treated the same. We must be responsible for our own action, not protected species.
I repeat, if we treat people differently, we create division….. that can’t be healthy.
Spouting right wing am radio dribble will not make it fact. No where has anyone said that rent should could would be paid. It's a hyperbole argument to scare.
No one has said they shouldn't get up and work and earn a living - but if you've ever travelled in or through regional towns and remote settlements and seen the squalor which are third world conditions is horrendous - there simply are no employment opportunities. To say we are one people is great when you're one of the ones who had opportunities to live a long, healthy, and prosperous life.
The same ridiculous arguments about rent and land grabs were thrown about before Mabo and the Sorry apology and all we've given up is Uluru - which we gave and wasn't through any massive court process. I remember the arguments before both of those being that they would claim the opera house, the barrier reef, all of Sydney harbour. Didn't happen of course because it's just scare tactics - same as John Howard not doing an apology for 11 years because of that very same argument. Ridiculous... it's been 15 years since sorry and we've lost nothing.
Listen to Jacinta all you want but if her answer is for those people to get off their asses then she's as stupid as the rest of the politicians who think that continuing the status quo is acceptable.
And for the story of the indigenous felon I agree that he should be punished but having worked in law enforcement I can tell you 100 stories of judges doing the same thing for white criminals who claim a poor upbringing or drug and alcohol abuse. There are many indigenous who have taken advantage of the system and that's great- including Jacinta - but the disparity between those indigenous in remote and rural areas cannot be denied and I reiterate if it was happening to any white community there would be something done differently and quickly to address the issues. And I bet if it was a white community that was disadvantaged we'd be consulting them about what they needed to fix the issues. That's the only thing that the voice was going to do - allow those who are in the issue to have a say (with no obligation for the government to follow through on recommendations).
