I will be in the US at an American footy match :)

Don't go missing me too much eh, I won't be gone long and I'm leaving GAT to watch over you and to make sure you behave (let's hope she is more successful at that than me!) and GAT will hopefully be posting my 2 weeks' worth of predictions which I will pm her with.

How I will manage without knowing Argyle's scores and the situation at HP I will never know but if I manage to get near a laptop.....

Two things wrong with the above Mrs lalala. First is that you consider watching American ball, refuse to call it football, over being at Home Park and secondly the fact you would even want to visit America in the first place. That is the last place, even over St James Park in Exeter, that I would ever wish to visit on this planet. But, in the interests of not sounding too bitter, have a good time.

It's the American thing that kind of turns me off. As a general rule I am not that kean on Americans and that place is full of them. As for the holiday thing, I didn't think you were emigrating. Everyone deserves a holiday and I hope you enjoy yourself.

I'm going over to stay with a friend (American) and to have a holiday - unfortunately the other two are coming with me lol

Sensible, I have had many "friends" in my lifetime, many of them have let me down when I needed them most, all of them Brits. I don't know if I just got lucky with this one or if Americans are just more loyal but she has proved herself a good friend, she came here to visit last year and this year it's my turn. I'm not sure if the Americans are ready for me yet but they're in for a bit of a shock if not!

Not all Americans are the same, there are good and bad in all races.

Probably just the ones I've met and have to say the majority were in uniform as well as some of them I see on TV. Just not my cup of tea.(no not an excuse for a side discussions on beverages again). I do admit to it being a generalisation rather than an individual assessment. Ever thought that it was mostly brits who let you down because the majority of people you know are brits?

Maybe sensible but a large percentage of "friends" have let me down (maybe I'm just a mug) but the first American I become friends with would fight my corner even against fellow Americans, there's something to be said for that.

I know a lot of yanks are loud and brash but that's just their way, we are more refined - it comes with the territory lol. At least they show their feelings, we don't do that much here do we?

You have very few "friends" in life Mrs lalala. If you are lucky enough to have more than one in the real sense of the word then you a blessed indeed. I know I make out that my other half is my enemy but she is the one true friend who would never let me down ever. I have a number of people I like a lot and I call friend but that is different. My family are my friends but like all people close to you they are never perfect are they anymore than I am to them probably. If you ever meet my other half and tell her I said the above I would have to kill you.

Very true sensible, if you don't have family you have nothing because family are THE most important thing. Sounds like you have a a good un in mrs sensible <ok> If you don't want me to tell her you will have to pay me sensible or you'd better hope we don't meet anytime soon <laugh> There is only one person in my life I could say the same about and that is my mother, dad too I guess but you don't talk to your father like you do your mother. My mother is one of life's givers and my best friend.

Inever had that with my parents particularly. My mother would have given me anything she had except herself for many years although over recent years that changed. I think the penny dropped when she needed us a lot and she regretted being distant or distant(ish). A lot depends on your own outlook on life and how you treat other people I think. If you are the sort of person who doesn't let others down and have a strict moral code in that respect then you are innevitably going to feel let down yourself when others don't live up to your own standards. I expect other people to let me down so am not particularly hurt when they do. My wife on the other hand is. I have been half way round the world and met all kinds of people from all backgrounds and stations in life. Maybe I'm just a bit more immune than she is with experience. Before plymborn jumps in, animals generally give unconditional love so maybe that's why the parrot is held in such affection. By the way don't let him get his hands on Beau. His interest seems a tad unhealthy to me.............

I often wonder if this is my problem sensible, I sometimes think I expect too much from friends. As for Beau, he doesn't give unconditional love, parrots aren't like cats or dogs they still have a little bit of the wild in them, Beau has a mind of his own and often won't do what I want him to do but I kinda like that, it makes him seem even more human. He is like a mini person in so many ways - the talking can be more entertaining than the tv - hillarious at times what they pick up. I was in the garden earlier cutting the grass and all I could hear was "I can see you" and he wouldn't stop saying it until I answered him lol. You are a funny guy sensible <laugh>

I'm not trying to cast aspertions on plymborn's character but have you heard the expression "ruffled feathers"? May take on a whole new meaning if you catch my drift.

There you go illustrating my point beautifully Mrs lalala. Animals you expect to let you down so you are not disappointed. People are basically animals in the evolutionary sense so you should treat them the same. The only difference regrettably is people can speak where most animals can't. The ones who can only mimic. Now if only humans were mute as well perhaps the world might be a better place.
