Loved watching this - that day at Wembley was really special. I think we're going back there this season... DTLW
I'm glad Ron takes this seriously...Cups are so important for a team like us. There may be more money in league positions (which seems to worry Newcastle a lot), but this is the earliest chance of a trophy. Any points you lose by the tiny chance of a player being injured is surely easily offset by the confidence of winning a trophy. Yes, you may not win it, but well worth the risk.
Chelsea haven't got there any more than we have. You don't always get the expected teams in the final.
If we are to play them, then I would rather play them in a one-off than over 2 legs, just can't see anyone (in England) beating Chelsea over 2 games this season. Let's just worry about beating Sheffield United first though eh?
All about the red and white stripes.....every year we've worn them since starting in League 1 something special has happened....
I certainly hope we will never ever be in the position that we qualify to take part in the Johnson Paint Trophy again no matter how much we enjoyed it.
Agreed, but at the time it was bloody good fun. At least Marcus (+camera) had his day out. I do find the attitude of a lot of Pompey fans strange though. They seem resentfull about taking part, relieved when they're knocked out.
Apparently now it's "worth it" as the winner qualifies for the Champions League. Mmmmnnn, top 4 or win the F.A. Cup? I'll take the trophy please sir.
At least Marcus (+camera) had his day out. That was the greatest thing of all for me. Will always be happy about the JPT for the pleasure and reward it gave Markus (hence my name).
I love the quote on the commentary "...and Saints are running riot at Wembley" Great day out, wouldn't have changed it for the world. Great memories. What a team, what a journey. Forget the 'journeys' in X-Factor, we as Saints FC have gone from bottom of League 1 to second in the Premier League. I was fortunate enough to speak once to Markus. I was in hospitality which turned out to be the director's box for the Boxing Day game v Exeter (3-1?), there were 32,000 (yep I know in league 1), and as I was going up the steps, Markus was in front of me. I was a 'little' under the influence and called out his name. To my shock he turned around and said "Yes?!" Me: "Thank You!" Markus "for what?!" I pointed to the full happy stadium with happy chants of "we love you Southampton, we do" ringing around and said "For this!" He replied with a huge grin "You're Welcome!" and shook my hand. Lovely man, great club.
