Although I'm not going out of my way to watch it, the bits I've seen have been quite enjoyable. Although it's got a LONG way to go to get anywhere near to the standard of the mens game, it's certainly come on leaps and bounds in entertainment value over the past few years. Nice to see the Bristol City flag behind the goal as the Lionesses are thrashing China 6-1! They only needed a draw to top their group but they're closing the group stages in some style!
I watched the highly rated Canadian team explode yesterday and bring our hopes tumbling back to earth with a big thud. After winning Olympic gold in an empty stadium they all thought they were worth the same money as in the men's game and carried that fight into the World Cup where they looked like a bunch of self important duds right from the start. Essentially they got what they deserved and nothing else and so they will return home with their collective heads held low hoping to escape the inevitable blasting from the media.
I’ve nothing against women’s football although I do wish the BBC would have the decency to split the men’s and women’s game for their headlines on the website that always throw me ! But roll on Saturday, real football is back! After years of being unbeaten on the opening day our recent record isn’t great I can still recall the utter misery of Coppells and David James debut on opening day in whatever year, (at home) which ended with a 0-3 home humiliation against Millwall in front of an expectant crowd, and thanks to probable interference from the owner. Up the City and hit the ground running on Saturday lads!
Well, the Lionesses rode their luck with that one! Quarter finals now - against either Jamaica or Colombia. I might make the effort to watch it now!!!
That was rubbish. One half of the team was playing a different game to the other. Englands women were mentally much stronger than Nigeria when it mattered at those penalties. The Nigerian penalty takers looked looked terrified and their keeper dived to her right every single time, England's penalties after the first put a pro male keeper in and they wouldn't have sniffed them. In other sexist news dont know that it is but Millie Bright has summat.
Only saw the shootout, and have to agree, there were some very good pens, that an international male keeper probably wouldn't have saved. It surprised me, as I wasn't sure they'd all be able to kick it as far as the goal line...
Is it just me, or do they all look the same, blonde hair and ponytails?, seems to be part of their kit .
I’m quite happy with that!!! Although I must admit when I HAVE watched some of the tournament I’ve been watching the actual games not perving over the players Probably showing my age!!!!
