A forum to discuss the tournament.
For me the standard and skill level on the women's game is now at a level worthy of serious watching... [emoji106]

I agree. Watched Oz v Italy and England v Scotland and there are some very good players. The tactics have come on by leaps and bounds over the past few years, and it is often just the final pass that let the sides down. But to be fair how many times have we said that about Watford last season?

I agree and the absence of shirt pulling and man (women) handling makes it a pleasure to watch. It is also played in a good natured and fair way.

I was disappointed with the Italy result, I think the Italian girls learned early on that they only had to fall over and the referee would give them a free kick!

I didn't think the Ref was biased one way or the other, but I did say to Mme that she came up with some very strange decisions. Also there was a lino who seemed to be working in slow motion, raising her flag ages after it was required.

I agree she wasn't biased, just that the Italian girls fell at the drop of a hat!

The lino in the England game also needed new duracells.

England start with a win - better side but missed a few chances and typically gave Scotland a chance.

France are the favourites I believe - is there a lot of hype OFH in the French papers?

It is very big here with the papers full of it. Looking at the fans going along, even when it is the traditional dinner time, shows just how much the game has come on. It is not that long since a few hundred to watch was quite normal. All of the clubs have teams, and some of the larger ones are attracting players from around the world.

I have watched the men team fail in every major competition since 1966,
The woman play with more skill, commitment and passion than the overpaid pansies currently representing England in the mens game

  11. Nice to hear. The cricket world cup here was similar and a couple of friends of mine went to the final at Lords and said it was more like wembley stadium with the chanting and general hubbub.
All I know is my three younger nieces are really enjoying it and in a world where we want kids to get off the screens and do something physical it can only be a good thing. I just want one of them to rave about Karen Carney more than Jesse Lingard or David Luiz - I think I'm a good uncle guys but I can't control everything :) just need the hornettes to step up to the plate now!

Most of the games have been competitive and close but not tonight!

Was the biggest and best ladies team in the World v a country with just 1k female footballers !

No wonder there was such s gulf in class ..

Secretly I am waiting for the first lady to get a yellow card for taking their shirt off. <yikes>

My bad, but I bet you have thought the same, H excepted. <somersault>

Jonathon Pearce asked his female co-commentator why there were fewer free kicks in the ladies game, was it because the game was slower and less frantic
No she replied its because the girls don't go down as easily
Kane and Ali please take note

Good win by England after some sustained pressure from Japan in the second half where they we very impressive and unlucky not to force a draw.

    Poor Scotland!

Have to say they were hard done by at the end but also have to look at themselves for blowing a 3 goal lead .

  19. Thought England did well to soak up the pressure and defended really effectively. Don't think they got enough credit actually.

Japan were very skilful and came so close in several occasions... Good win.
