Appropriately for International Women's Day (ahem), the BBC have announced that they're going to start featuring the Women's Super League from next season. A weekly goals round up will also feature on the website. Considering the way that this aspect of the game appears to be gaining in popularity, are we missing a trick by not giving it any focus? I must admit, it's something that I don't really give a crap about, but that might be down to the standard of the game in this country. The apparent lack of competitiveness damages it quite badly too, in my opinion. I'll just pose 3 quick questions and them I'm off for the night: 1. Do you care about the women's game and if you don't, is it just about the quality of the football? 2. Would you like to see THFC actively investing in this area of the sport? 3. Would it interest you if the game was pitched in a way that didn't clash with the men's game, eg, summer seasons, playing when the men's team doesn't (home when away, Sat when playing Sun)? Try to keep the Blatter-esque contributions down a bit, please!
I don't care about the womens game, but I'd watch it if there was a game on. What I've noticed though, is that there's hardly ever anyone in the stadiums. I know it's due to the popularity aspect, but a full stadium and the atmosphere makes such a difference, for me. But I guess, it needs the coverage to gain the popularity, so it deserves a chance. (But then again Wigan have been in the premier league for years and they've never got anyone there! ) I don't follow the womens football at club level at all, but I've really enjoyed watching internationals in the past. The quality of some of the football has been outstanding. - That game between The USA and Canada in the olympics was incredible. It would certainly interest me more if their season was during the summer. - When there's not a mens international competition taking place, the summer is very boring. That's a very good idea IMO, PNP
Not interested in the slightest - anymore than I am in women's golf, cricket or rugby which are the 3 other sports that I follow. Combination of reasons, but the bottom line is undoubtedly the final product quality. Athletics (major events) would the exception. Sounds slightly misogynistic, but isn't. I don't watch any Scottish football or lower league English League anymore for much the same reason.
The problem is its just mens football played badly. Football is a tribal sport. I just can't ever see people caring enough about woman's football when you can watch a far better alternative.
I'd rather watch womens beach volley ball., but having said that, I rather watch women play anything at all then watch Coronation (bloody) Street.... Wait a minute..... What if FIFA were to introduce a range of swinsuit costumes as stand attire for the female game. That could riase interest., Come to think of it., the one thing I find unattractive, is mens baggy football shorts on female players.
I assume the site has been upgraded? The icon to view posts being quoted is new and I have not been able to multi quote for a while without doing it manually. Good stuff from the techies.
