Wolves are after Chris Wood according to the mercury. It would be a shame to see him go as I think he has alot to offer but with the change in style of play last season where we used pace as our main outlet he struggled to make an impact. With the step up this season we can't really afford to take Vardy, Wood and Nugent as our front 3 incase none of them can score the goals. While there is still no guarantee that David Nugent will be here next season so I would go selling Chris Wood just yet. I would be looking to recoup what we paid for him 1.5M
Wouldn't want to sell him for £1.5m Would much rather loan him out because I think that with a year of consistent first team football he'll score 20.
hmmmmm... tough one this. Obviously talented but not in the picture. I wouldnt put it past him to force his way back into it though.
The problem is he isn't suited to our style of play anymore Last season we tried to use the pace of Dyer, Schlupp, De Laet, Nugent and Vardy to score the goals. When teams sat in we look for Drinkwater, Knockaert and Mahrez to pull something off. Wood problem was that he can't compete with Vardy as they offer totally different things and Vardy was invaluable at times and Nugent was bringing a lot to the team either in terms of goals or assists so Wood never really got a look in and whenever he made a good impression he would let himself down the next game I like Chris Wood as a player and I think with a bit of work he could be a very good striker and I think in the future he would be more then capable of scoring goals in the prem. I think his main problem is everyone just put high balls on him and thats not his strength, he likes to ball played into him and he can either lay it off or bring the ball down. The reason he asked to leave West Brom was because he had enough of going out on loan so I can't see him being happy with that option
For selfish reasons I hope he stays. The club has had a much higher profile in NZ since his transfer and with only Winston Reid at West Ham adds another kiwi to the Premier League. On top of that while maybe not first choice standard at the moment he is still only around 22 and a half decent player.
I just think that £1.5m isn't enough to cover his potential. I think Wolves would be getting a serious bargain at that price. Could really see him lighting up that division if given the time with a manager that has already got the best out of him. I think it'd be a mistake to just get rid. Loan with a view to a permanent depending on the season he has would be the best for us.
Kenny Jackett got the best out of him at Millwall. I think the best deal for us would be asking for 1.5M up front and throw in tons of add ons and sell ons
Whats the need to sell? Just loan him and see what happens? If it means we lose out on 1.5m then so be it. Would much rather do that than watch him scored 30 and get signed by someone like Newcastle for 8m. We lose nothing from loaning him but if we sell him then we're selling his potential which we know is great.
I don't think Chris Wood will want to go out on loan. If Nugent doesn't sign a new deal then I would definitely keep Wood. Im a fan of Chris Wood but I think one of Nugent or Wood has to go because we need to bring in 2 new strikers IMO. I bet Nigel regrets putting that clause in Gary Taylor-Fletchers contract that says he would get a new deal if he made 20 appearances, now we stuck with him for another year
I agree with you but it doesn't work like that in football these days I think more often then not were going to see the 451 formation we seen towards to end of the season in away games meaning we don't need as many strikers on the books At home with the exception of the top 6 we will be playing 2 up top trying to win the game so I think we only need 4 strikers on our books with as it stands just Vardy and Wood will be here next season along with GTF
Some people on here was calling for Pearson, Vardy, Drinkwater and many more to leave as they wasn't up to standard And now they haven't got a bad word to say about them It just shows you should never write a person off
Like most of our players that haven't tasted the big time before, I'd ideally like to see him at least be tried out before we think of selling on or loaning out (transfer window doesn't close until the end of August). Some players may be better suited to the Prem than the Championship. Right now Wood is third choice striker, which is an important player for us. Until he drops to fifth choice, I wouldn't want to think of getting rid, unless he wants away, which would surprise me as he must want to test himself on the big stage.
If we can sign a far better replacement then let him go. Thing is he ain´t going to get much of a look in next season anyway & when he does play he won´t be up with the pace... imo.
Wood can be our Connor Whickham, loan him out for a couple of seasons and then recall him to help us survive
Could see him going if we sign Ulloa. Pity as he had a good first season and spent most of last season out through injury yet he still managed to do things like this: Also:
2 very different goals there. Goal 1- pure class from the pass to the net. Goal 2- right place right time. I can´t see him getting to many next season IF he stays.
