Any Mystic Megs out there who definitely know which other teams will be departing on Sunday May 6th? Who considers themselves an aficionado of football punditry or are complete stats nerds or sport psychologists that can make an intelligent prediction? I predict: Cardiff, Barnsley, Burton
I think Middlesbrough will win the playoffs. Strong squad that hasn’t been overstretched, pragmatic manager, stupendous win bonuses.
Is there such thing as an intelligent prediction at this point? I'd say there is wrong and there is lucky.
I'm not into predictions at the best of times considering how unpredictable sport really is, but the emphasis of this post on intelligence seemed particularly strange to me.
I’m not equipped to provide intelligence, sorry. I just wanted to set Chazz off with a bit more pro-Boro stuff. Although I do genuinely think they are the most likely to win the play offs, and will invest accordingly at the bookies.
Cardiff will scrape a narrow win over Reading. Villa will win the playoffs. Burton and Barnsley will be relegated as Bolton beat Forest to stay up.
I reckon Burton and Barnsley will do it. I can't see Birmingham beating Fulham, nor can I see Reading beating Cardiff City. Burton are in decent form. It's tight down there, but I think with the ****e that Reading are in, Burton will pull themselves out. Barnsley are good at pulling out shock results, can see them getting something at Derby. Which would also **** up Derby's playoff hopes (I think, I hope).
Let's be honest Burton are not really a CL club in terms of ground size and budget but it would be a major achievement if they won their last match and results went in their favour. But they are unlikely to beat Preston away who are still in the play-off hunt. That said a point would keep them up if Barnsley don't win at Derby and Bolton don't beat Forest. It's easy for Bolton - they have to win and that clears the mindset. Forest have nothing to play for Brum and Reading are safe due to GD - barring a disaster I see Bolton winning 1-0, Barnsley drawing ( Derby only need a point to make the play-offs even they can't screw it up again) and Burton losing 3-0
