Huge game this, could potentially wrap the season up in our favour with a win. Though I think a draw is more likely and still keeps it very difficult for Wolves to catch up. Brentford may be able to put the pressure back on though. Don't mean to hi-jack the match thread creation role but I find myself with a spare ticket. Don't want to see it go to waste; PM if interested.
A huge game indeed Do you think MM will pick same starting 11 or will he revert to type? The team selection has never been more crucial
I would hope he will stick with the same 11, but away at a promotion rival on TV. Last time was Middlesbrough, would not be surprised at all if Mick reverted to a more cautious line up. Remaining undefeated for the rest of the season puts all the pressure on Wolves and Brentford. Think we may see Tabb (unless he's injured?) back in the frame. As Williams didnt play on Tues I think he'll get some game time aswell. 1-1 draw with Wolves scoring first is my prediction. Westlake - Happy to meet up, don't know Wolverhampton at all so probably best to stick to Molineaux. I'll be in my black away Top with 'Holmes 90' (because I'm so imaginative) on the back.
Wolves are strong from the wide areas. so Mick will stick with Parr and bring Tabb back in, its almost a given. I reckon Chaplow will come in for Bish as three games might be too much for the lad.
I have a bad feeling this isny going to go well - Wolves are extrmely strong going forward, which doesn't help as our defence hasnt been confident of late. We need to do a Watford on them, and contain them as much as possible, and hope for a sucker punch. I'd be ecstatic if we can get a draw, even more so if Brentford fail to beat Bolton. I'm gonna predict a heart wrenching 3-2 defeat, with us being 3-0 down and pulling a couple of late goals back. I agree in swapping Chaplow for Bishop, and if Varney is still not fit, will think Ando will come in on the right.
Oh yes very imaginative. Only Ipswich top I have with a players name is Westlake 33 from the 04/05 season, not that I wear colours as is a problem for some bars and home supporters can sometimes want some. Have a feeling the atmosphere after could be quite tense - I dislike Wolves with passion and the only good thing about this club is the £1 burgers on offer on my last two visits outside the ground. We'll meet on the concourse if you'd like! Line ups an interesting one- back 5 = obvious Skuse Murphy and Sears - I think them 8 are a given. With it being away at a tough side, would imagine Tabb LM to protect Mings and be a general nuisance. Imagine Varney won't be back yet, so assume Parr may well start RM. Have a feeling Bishop may well line up though, with Chaplow on h/t. May get a solid 25 out of Williams - funny feeling he may well score as Wolves were in for him too. How football works isn't it!?
Personally, if I was Mick I would see this as the perfect time to go with 3 at the back, with Parr on the right and Mings on the left, Skuse, Tabb & Chaplow in the middle to boss that area of the field and Murphs/Sears up top. then Joniesta to replace either Tabb or Chaplow on the hour mark to play in the hole behind the front 2. Playing this way, the 3 CB's should be able to cope with the delivery from out wide, we boss the midfield with runners looking to get in behind the front 2. that's my take on it anyway.
I think the best formation to stifle their system, would be to play 4-5-1. You'd then try and stop the supply to their wide men, and try to push them back as far up the field as possible. It would be an extremely brave manager to play this system, and i genuinely feel sears could be the perfect guy to have as a lone striker.
If we play like we did against Blackpoo and if Mick picks the same side then......... Nothing but a 2-1 defeat imo!!
" Personally, if I was Mick I would see this as the perfect time to go with 3 at the back " Well I for one am happy Mick is incharge and not yourself. This is not the game to go tinkering with formations! If it comes off, great, if not egg on face. While I definitely would have given 3-5-2 a go this season, we haven't so either 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 is the way to line up. Very true Spanish, however that's a glass half full approach. What about if we play like we did at Watford, where they had zero shots on target the entire game? I think this games very hard to call - have a feeling though after all is said and done we may come up short and Spanish's 2-1 defeat might be around right. Just a gut feeling. Wolves are a good side, powerful, quick and they'll be hard to play. Our away form of 2 wins in 8 isn't good either and our record at Wolves is nothing to write home about either. As a side issue, just found out my 96 year old nan has a maximum one week to live apparently. I'm quite cut up about this, throughout my life have seen her roughly three times p/week and stayed at hers many times! Meant to be going, but potentially may have to offload tickets and sky tv it up. See what I can do, should I go Mike ( may well happen yet ! ) I'll definitely be up for seeing you. MASSIVE game this! Three games to go, then see where we are.
Very sorry to hear your sad news Westy, all the best.It puts the "triviality" of a football match into perspective.
Well , point one i never said change formation, i said the same side as against Blackpoo, kinda says dont start with Tabb, keep Parr and Hunt. Point two, i put the same comment for Cardiff game, so thought it may be good luck to use same comment. Point 3, dont mourn ya nan, bloody have a good time and celebrate her 96 years, your lucky as is she, most people lose their grandparents in their 70's or 80's, she has had a damn good innings mate and it should be celebrated!!
Yeah it's sad times at present - will go to the game if I possibly can - she'd have wanted me to stick it to the orange brigade. Wasn't on about you Spanish re 3-5-2, Guru thought it may be a good idea. Hope you're right Spanish, just woke up with a feeling we win 2-1, Williams with a late winner ( Wolves wanted him on loan I recall )
Very sorry to hear about her, Westy, always a blow, a shock and especially someone you have looked up to and cherished for hundreds of years! As Spanish says, celebrate her life, take all the good things you shared, and dont get too downhearted!Anyways, you will find that she is in the room next door!
Sad to reveal she has died today. Mum rang me when at work to reveal she wouldn't wake up again today, an hour later, she was gone. Upsetting. However, it's a relief in a way as she had deteriorated badly the last two years. Her quality of life wasn't gone, but she is a massive loss. It does also confirm I will be at the fixture - Mike - up for meeting you, will post you my number. As for the game, done a mental bet. 2-1 Ipswich, Williams last goal scorer. 210-1 with W. Hill.
Sorry to hear about your loss Westy...I lost my step Grandmother last month after a 5 year battle with dementia...I am sure they are both now in a better place.
