Wolves have been a huge thorn in our side since they came back to the Prem. We've only beaten them 1 time in 6 meetings, and they did the double over us last season (albeit their win at Molineux was in VERY controversial circumstances). Bruno Lage has done a fantastic job over there and a win against us Thursday evening means they go ahead of us in the league table. They absolutely deserve to be mentioned in the top-4 race right now. They have fared quite well in the bigger games. Beat United at Old Trafford, drew with Chelsea and suffered very narrow defeats to Liverpool (conceded last minute winner) and Man City (controversial penalty winning City the game). This is going to be an extremely tough test. I don't see us winning there on Thursday. They are a very compact and resolute team. They don't score many goals, either. I think it'll be a draw personally. 1-1.
Yeah, they've been a really decent outfit this season. Kind of lost their way a bit under Nuno towards the end. But the seem to have rediscovered that edge they had. Gonna be a really tough test this one. We are going to need to be defensively really switched on because Wolves have got attacking threat from several areas of the pitch. Also we are not scoring many goals and cannot afford to go a couple of goals down there.
Wolves are the lowest-scoring team at home in the league with 8 in 10 games. What are the bets they score 2 or 3 against us tonight.
Agree with all the above, they have been a bogey team for us over recent years. However, we need to go out there tonight with intent and take advantage of both the Spuds and Manure dropping points. If we whimper to defeat it could put a nail in the top 4 coffin for us!
Hard to predict. The break may have done us good. United and Tottenham dropped points so a win could be big with regards to the TOP 4 hunt. Shame we are missing Tomiyasu though we always looks stronger defensively when he's in the side. Im hoping the break will have done us some good and am predicting a 2-0 win.
They don't concede many goals.. massive game if we can get a result it puts us in a good position going forward after the break..esp after last nights results.. 2.0 win sounds good 2 me
So, yet again, we are winning the game, in control, then Martinelli is an utter idiot and gets two yellow cards in quick succession, and now we’re down to 10 men for 74837383th time ….and now Lacazette misses a sitter. I’m sick of this BS every week. If we even think about renewing his contract at the end of the season, I will riot.
FT. 0-1. Not pretty, but a vital, vital victory and in a game of so few chances, we still had the best ones. I was worried that Lacazette missing that sitter was going to be a costly miss, but our defence held firm and marshalled Wolves’ attack very well. I’m highly critical of Arteta but one thing I will credit him for is solidifying our defence. Wolves are a hard team to play against and Molineux is a tricky away ground, so that’s a huge 3 points, especially in light of yesterday’s results.
Wolves had only lost to Liverpool at home before tonight I think ? And they’ve been on a really good run recently too. To go there and get all 3 points, especially when we went down to 10 men is a huge huge result especially on the back of the spuds losing at home and utd dropping more points at home to bottom placed Burnley. up into 5th now 1 point behind West Ham with 2 games in hand on them.
Yeah clocked that on Radio 5 live We celebrated because it was 3 away points, at a tough place to go and we were down to 10 men I'm pretty sure they would have done the same if it was at the Emirates. So yeah, stfu Neves.
Was a tough match. Tactically Wolves look like a very solid team at the moment. Thought Gabriel and White were excellent. The sending off was bullshit. I've seen players commit a foul then immediately make another offence many times (such as kick the ball away or push a player who comes over) - normally the play is stopped and we go back to the first infringement. Only Arsenal get penalised like this.
Yeah that red card was bullshit and it wasn't within the rules either. please log in to view this image We should appeal that red card.
I don't agree that we should appeal. It'll get dismissed for frivolous appeal. What Oliver did was technically within the laws of the game. The issue is with the definition of a 'promising attack' and based on the opinions yesterday from ex-referees and pundits, it is a very subjective view. Chiquinho was in acres of space and was heading toward our penalty area unchallenged before the foul. Personally, I think we need to look at Martinelli more for being petulant than focus on the ref. He reacted badly to not getting a foul by pushing Podence when he tried to take the quick throw in, which is a clear yellow, and then barged Chiquinho in the back - who was in our defensive third - when there was clearly no attempt to get the ball, which we have also seen yellows given for, too. Why did he need to do either of those things? It was utterly brainless. I know this is the first instance of something like that happening in the Prem (typical), but it wasn't technically wrong.
I couldn't quite believe that was a genuine rule given how badly it's worded but it is in fact word for word from the FA website. How can a professional organisation have an official ruling that's written by what appears to be a child and make little sense? I don't think anyone can argue that either of Martinelli's fouls wasn't yellows. But the bizarre wording of the rules suggests he shouldn't have been booked for the first push on Podence. By the looks of it if a foul is committed but the ref waves play-on, then it's only a yellow if that first foul denied an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, but not a yellow if it just stopped a promising attack. So by that wording alone, the push on Podence wasn't a yellow card as he was just attempting to stop a promising attack (not that he even succeded as the throw-in still happened and the attack still took place). But I don't think anyone would argue against that as it's clearly a bookable push. Just ****e wording by the rule as apparently the only way to get booked from a waved-on foul is for the foul to have prevented a goal-scoring opportunity. But why on earth would a referee wave play-on and give advantage from a foul that had prevented a goal-scoring opportunity? What advantage could there possibly be if the opportunity has already been prevented?? And surely if a goal-scoring opportunity is prevented, that's a straight red no? The same section of ruling says: "A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off: denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a handball offence (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area)" So you get sent off for stopping a goal-scoring opportunity if the ref stops play. But if the ref decides to play on (why on earth would he?), then when the ball goes out he's only allowed to yellow card you?? Anyway... not the first time it's happened: Chris Baird red card in Northern Ireland-Hungary - YouTube
Not our most fluid performance, but very important 3 points and our centre backs were very good. Great to see Ramsdale looking more confident again as well.. A win for Wolves last night would have seen them go above us.. We play them again in two weeks.
