Lots of rumours surfacing that we are to offer £10m for Van Wolfswinkel! I know Lisbon are in financial trouble but will that be enough and can we persuade him to come to us ahead of other teams? Yes we will be able to offer more money and first team premier league football but im sure we will need to bring in other reasonably big signings to convince him we have ambition. Thoughts?
As has been suggested, I suspect a whole raft of players to come in over the summer. We know what we need, Hughton knows what we need, and it will be delivered.
I don't think we need big signings, just players with different attributes to what we presently have.
He would make a great signing and I would certainly be happy if it happens. Not sure if we would need big signings in order to attract high calibre players but the brand of football we play or are capable of playing could be a massive deal changer. At the moment what bothers me more is the lack of vision our midfield possess we need some players in there who have a good passing range who can open things up more as we're a little bit one dimensional and predictable at the moment.
By.big signings I meant people like Biglia I.e. not a massively ridiculous price tag but clearly a cut abouve what we have and big by our standards. He isnt the only player but he is one we have been linked with so i am using him as an eg. But Biglia has that touch and vision mentioned above! Someone like him would show Wolfie we have ambition!
Ricky Van Wolfswinkel has the potential to do for us in the Premiership what Grant Holt did for us in League 1 and I will claim that until proven wrong. A massive talent being squandered in Portugal.
It would be a good summer if we got Bilgia and Ricky the Wolf. Doubt wither would be interested but we can always hope and we will have the cash to splash (assuming that we don't lose the next 9 games and go down!)
Well said When a foreign player or someone a cut above what we already have get's mentioned, certain sections of City fans break out in a cold sweat and hit the panic buttons, we're not going to be buying players like Xavi or Iniesta or players from top echelons of Europe, but we can buy international players of a high standard on the continental market for a decent price.
I think Wolf's Penis could be a fantastic signing, but I agree that we need a little more creativity in midfield to exploit the options we would have up front.
We certainly need some inspirational signings and to be fair, it may only need a couple, but the current squad is largely performing at max now and if we don't improve it, we will be real favourites to go down next year and the style of play I fear will be of the current standard (I will say no more) Also, I see Butterfield as being potentially vital for us next season - so him with a quality striker and one or maybe two others, that should pep up the squad and bring more out of what we have already got. Hopefully.
the problem is THURNBY, Butterfield is on loan at Palarse and he is getting very little game time for some reason. do they think that he is not good enough for them? all reports i hear from Barnsley fans, and i live near some, he is the next great thing. now all fans think their players are far better than reality proves them to be, but he must have something about him for these rave reviews. a top class defensive midfielder is, in my opinion, essential. this will allow us to play only one DM, thus opening up attacking options.
I agree that we need far more skill, pace and power in the squad and I also agree that Hughton will be looking for a number of players. In one article I saw a figure of 10 mentioned which would obviously be a combination of first team and squad players. If that happens then it means that all the players out on loan or out of contract have got to go PLUS 10 from our current squad PLUS Korey Smith, Adeyemi and Francomb who are no longer ' youngsters ' I would be quite happy with this but I wonder how it would go down generally. On another point mentioned I also have my doubts about Butterfield - he has not had a chance here to date but has hardly set the world alight whilst out on loan this season,
