With Crewe only drawing and Rotherham losing I think we could still get into that last playoff spot. Don't get me wrong this would require us to win all of our matches and for oxford and crewe to slip up quite badly but I still think its possible. Crewe have a very tough run in, the toughest out of us, them and oxford in my opinion, and seeing as they couldn't see of Macc today I don't think they will pick up a massive amount of points. Oxford weren't sensational today and seem prone to the odd freak result. If we lose next saturday the season is over and no matter how 'mathematically possible' it is we will be in league 2 next year. What does every one else think? Does anyone share my optimism or are you resigned to another year in the basement?
If we win our 3 helping gd on the way Crewe and oxford both win 1 and draw 2 we are there. Unlikely but definitely possible. Should ensure a good atmosphere next Saturday.
A, We wont beat Swindon B, We wont beat Northampton C, The other teams won't slip up enough. Ever deepening gloom for me. Next season with slightly lower gates, slightly less quality of players, same low standard of tactics = downward spiral to the bad old days Injuries have taken their toll this season granted. We have had a big enough squad to compensate except the boss brought in too many midfielders when he needed another striker and a decent winger and maybe another defender to replace players like Barcham and Bayo from the start. We all knew this ...is was all said on this Forum before the season. Add to this the fact that the club is even starting to alienate its hard core fans over things like the Swindon is it on ? Is it off debacle and I can only see long term decline. There are other clubs in Kent that could relatively soon challenge Gills for the top club in Kent bragging rights. Wonder how long before PS sells the club for a pound. In conclusion ...Failure this year is a much bigger issue IMO than merely a question of should Hess get another year and it's going to cost our club dear. :-(
Got home from the game 30mins ago and being a stubborn old fool, I will be keeping the faith until it is no longer possible to get promotion. Although after expecting another miracle today, I am resigned to be purchasing my season ticket next week for League Two football next season.
Agree with BAG Crewe and Oxford have on paper tough fixtures but won't slip up enough for us to take advantage and even then we'll drop points. Only game I can see us winning is Morecambe which will be too late. Even though they're a point worse than us I wouldn't rule out Rotherham just yet..
What does every one else think? Does anyone share my optimism or are you resigned to another year in the basement?[/QUOTE] too many "if"s imo, IF we win our next 3, IF teams around us drop points, (how many times over the years have we been relying on other results) if it was the only 3 games i might have a tiny bit of hope, but it"s not it"s 5 games we have to win to gain promotion, (1 big win in the play off"s & the final) i really dont think we are capable of putting in such a run of results, what is more concerning is would the club consider it a good season IF we did make the play off"s, would things change that much for next season? so FAITH, HOPE, & OPTIMISM have been put in the drawer with my wooly sock"s ti"l next season,
