With Cesc looking like he is going, who will be our new captain? Van Persi is the main contender, for time at the club, loyalty, passion, etc, only if he can he stay fit. But can he stay fit? Maybe vice captain is best. Thomas Vermaelen? played one season and been injured for the next. Is he commanding enough. he might end up at left back too. Jack Wilshere? maybe to early for him now. But he has what it takes for sure. Samir Nasri? After a bumber contract and Cesc's role. Maybe give it to him to keep him? New CB? new signing? Wenger of late has given it to the best player we have. Personally I would prefer the biggest voice and motivator. I think TV is best for the job. but I have a sneaky feeling it might be Nasri. Thoughts?
Sagna is very hard working. He should be rewarded with the arm band. I doubt any of our other players could do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMoaRs_-3jo (except vermaelen of course).
Has to be Van Persie, deserves it more than anyone. Sagna, Vermaelen and possible Szczesny as vice-captain candidates.
RVP - Captain Sagna - Vice-Captain I don't think Nasri has what it takes to be captain, if what happened over the past month is any indication to how he will act towards the club in the future I don't want him near the armband. I think Wilshere will captain Arsenal sooner or later, but right now he needs to pick up more experience. I think Sagna only just beats TV to vice-captain, simply because he is the more reliable option.
Van Persie if Cesc was to leave, although I think, even as a Liverpool fan, that Fabregas moving to Barcelona is not imminent (This summer)
If Cesc leaves: Captain: van Persie. I don't think there is any real debate about this. These last few months he has been fantastic and played hard as well. Only problems are her will get injured and that may have counted against him if there were any other real contenders, but there aren't, as I see it. Vice Captain Candidates: Sagna, Vermaelen, Nasri. I would personally say Sagna, although he is a quieter player and may not be vocal enough. Then I would say Vermaelen, although I still don't think he has enough PL experience after only 1 real season. Then Nasri, because he is one of the best players, but he has been disrespectful towards the club with this contract, so he is bottom of the list. In 5 years: Ramsey or Wilshere.
Definitely NOT Nasri. Not after this debacle. He clearly doesn't love the club like a captain should. RvP has stated his love for the club several times. Being the best player is fine, and I think "love the club" is a very over-rated term, but you really want a player who gives that extra 10% because he cares about the club he's playing for. Like Gerrard at Liverpool. Whatever you think about him, he's Liverpool through and through and has saved them single-handedly several times. He's a captain figure. Tommy V I feel could be good, RvP definitely, but being up front is he too far away? Chesney is too young, Nasri definitely not, Wilshere & Ramsey also probably too young at this stage. But then TV has only played one season. Interesting to see who Arsene goes for. I'd reckon RvP with TV when RvP isn't playing.
Van Persi is prime candidate like I stated, but can we have a captain that out for 10/15 games a season. Maybe it will push him more to be fit mentally. TV has only played one season…. Sagna would be perfect but I didn’t mention him initially because he not a leader type. Hardworking team player for sure. But is he a leader. I agree with Bonstar “love the club” is better than the best player. Although with the form Van Persi ended with he would have been the best player if he stayed fit.
Ramsey is our future captain, not Wilshere. You only need to look at the way he bosses our players around (see the United game) to see it. He's already captain of his national side and he's a lot smarter than our Jack.
I don't like strikers as captains. Always think Centre backs are best suited for the role, as they get to see evrything that happens in front of them (think Tony Adams). If not a CB, then a CM, constantly involved (Think Roy Keane). Anyway, IF Cesc goes, RVP would be captain. However, I would prefer Vermaelen as captain and Wilshere as vice. But this won't happen.
If Ramsey was first team then we could see/review. at the mo he is going to behind Narsi and Wilshere. In the future we will see between him and Wilshere.
Wilshere for me is too hot headed to be Captain at this stage. When he's 25 and has mellowed then sure. He shouts a lot, but that's not necessarily what a captain needs to do. A captain needs to inspire, and I believe Ramsey is more than kind of inspirational player. Not being first choice last season, you can't guarantee he will be next, so he will definitely not be captain. It'll be either TV or RvP. Unless Wenger throws in a curve ball and gives it to Clichy with his new contract
ide agree with that.i think either sagna or TV should be chosen. as a utd fan,i think sagna would be the better- solid, consistant, near enough to ever-present (something that TV cant come close to claiming) and levelheaded. i know hes not the most vocal of players, but neither was vidic before he was given captaincy. when a player is given the responsibility, they usually step up to the task.
TV has been there for 2 seasons, and badly injured for one. he was ever-present in his 1st season. i think it's too early to write him off as injury prone. Sagna is the voice of experience, but i think a leader should be one with or without the armband. give it to the player who is most vocal NOW in the dressing room - without the armband. don't hope the band makes him a leader.
