I think that I am right in saying that most of us thought that 17th would be great

Pre TF takeover I thought 17th would be a miracle, post an expectation. We have had the potential to finish much higher - stupid home draws, sendings off and above all the extreme rarity of the whole team firing on all cylinders at the same time i.e. consistency - has been our problem. But we still may meet the expectation

i think 17th is what more than the half of us would settle for, as a ffc fan anything above 17th is a bonus, apart from the past 3 years and 2 out of first 3 in the prem, we have usually been scrapping it out near the bottom. its a pretty unforgiving league

When the season started? 17th, but not a nail-biter.
I remember a thread (kiwis?) where he listed 8 or 9 teams, including Fulham, with the title 'surely we can finish above 3 of these'. At the time it looked eminently do-able, in fact I remember somebody on that thread even threw in a couple more names into the hat. It all looked from that innocent vantage point to be quite simple, somehow or other it became more complicated as time went on.

After the bolton game at home i thought it would be 20th with about 20 points.

Looking back we have had ample opportunity to stay away from the bottom 3 and it is gutting we've only been in the bottom 3 for 3 or 4 of the 36 games played so far. Personally think the sendings off are what have killed us this season ,especially wolves and Norwich at home. The first 7 games we had men sent off and we went on to loose.

Easily 4 points dropped there, possibly even 6.

WBA at home we bossed and how barton missed that chance i will never know. How did we not beat Newcastle on that Monday night game, there are lots of games that are if onlys ..

The one that is going to stick in my throat though is Bolton away and the disalowed goal. We could be 3 clear with 2 to play. Still angry.

While we were running away with the title last season I had reckoned we were as good if not better than a whole host of also rans in the Prem. I'd thought mid-table was a certainty and does anyone remember the stick I got for suggesting being on the brink of aiming for Europe?

20/20 hindsight vision is a marvellous thing but I don't mind admitting that there was a time earlier on in this season that I thought we'd cruise it. Then comes the TF take over and more money with the likes of Barton, Traore, Young & SWP and along with many on here I thought we were set for a decent season and even when things started to go pear shaped there were enough games in the New Year to see us remain safe.

Add to that the switch from Colin to Sparky in January and even more new faces like Zamora, Cisse, Diakite etc brought on the "too good to go down" moniker we've all come to dread.

Some sort of spontaneous combustion has gone on and our team has imploded in on itself with the odd high spot to keep us keen but an over riding realisation that we are not the masters of our own destiny and the term "mathmatically possible" soon to be heard by the desperate and crest fallen.

It has been a crap season and a handful of shock wins at home aren't enough to make up for the dross that we have had to watch since August. Should we hang on to our status in the Premiership I am hopeful for a summer of reflection and investment which will result in us not being the push overs of late and things will start looking up. I am still convinced, however, that our cards are marked already and I am at peace with the inevitability of playing in the Championship next season.

16th was my prediction pre kick off. Think we would have made that if it wasn't for Wigan's late revival. But we'll still scrap enough to make 17th which will be like winning the league atm.

Survival. 17th or above. Never really considered that we were capable of any thing else. Still very much possible.

I remember that thread well. I got tore a new arse on it!

I said 19th but then I'm a miserable old git.

(I've just found the pre-season thread and bumped it up)

What do I win if we finish 19th?

Given the pre-season Briatore lumbered us with it was always going to be a huge ask to finish anything above 20th. If we do go down there'll finally be a big clearout and I think we'll be in quite a strong position to come back up and stay up.

On the first day of the season, pre-takeover and with a threadbare squad I thought we'd finish 20th, deadline day I thought we'd manage 15th-16th...
