Honestly boys i think this is going to be another fustrating long transfer window this summer and i really hope i'm wrong. Apart from what looks like the signing of Brad Friedal we don't seem to be close to signing anyone at the moment Maybe things are going on behind the scenes that we don't know but we are spurs and we do things the hard way. I just don't want us doing what we normally do and scrambling desperately at the last min for players. I feel this season could be the one most important in our clubs history because if we are to keep our key players ( as Harry and Levy have promised us) then this season is the year we need to get back in the top 4 otherwise i see our Key players definetly leaving next summer. It also means we need to get the transfers spot on this time. No panic buys but players of class that will actually improve us. Come on Levy!!! we want a striker!!! COYS!!!
Thing is, though we have a bit of money we need to sell before we can buy. so the deadwood needs off loading. Looks like wilson could be off to napoli but don't think we'll get the 15 mill being quoted in the papers, more closer to 8-9 mill.O'hara to Wolves for 5, Dos santos to a somewhere for 4 mil, keane - 4/5 mill, hutton - 4/5 mill, Bentley 4-5 mill, Crouchy 8 mill to sunderland. Give or take a few thats close to 40 Mill plus there will be other movements also. Because people know we will have to sell before buying clubs will try and get players on the cheap and we know what levy is like, he doesn't do cheap so we are in for an interesting summer to say the least!!!!!! COYS
Thing is modrico we have money and lots of it. We don't actually need to sell first because we still the champions league money we didn't spend last season. If the reports were true and Levy was literally putting in 35mil bids for the likes of Aguero and Rossi then we clearly have the funds. I just feel leaving it late will end up meaning we miss out on our targets and the likes of Modric etc Wont see the ambition of the club
All about timing, at the time of those bids in January we were flying high in the champions league and still fighting for 4th spot and we wanted to consolidate this. Now that we have missed out, the available funds has been lowered and we will need to sell to get that marque signing of a striker. My Personal preference would be Hulk/Falcao from Porto but we're not in the champions league and we don't pay astronomical wages so it does look like it could be a Gervinho. I'd like Onuoha from city, think he'd be a good buy and someone to give competition to lennon on the right as lennon is what he is, speed, speed speed but little skill!!!!!
Modrico...... I have to disagree about lennon not having little skill. He can draw in two players then pass them both to head for that by-line. Also I think the introduction of Becks for that short period improved his crossing drastically. I do Agree though that the loss of Champions League football is a massive blow if we are to sign that marque player. i just read this morning that we're looking at Higuain at a cut price from Real. Personally I don't think we'd get him as we're up against City and Arsenal (who can both offer Champions League). But possibly with the likes of VDV, Modders and Bale staying that could attract him as he will know we will be pushing for that 4/3 spot next season. I would be very disappointed if we do the same thing again this transfer window and wait until the last moment, I think we need to bring these players in early so they are there and ready for pre-season..
Without a doubt he will leave.... bury your heads in the sand but you know and I know that Harry and Levy know that Modric knows the best option for his career is to leave and with that Harry knows that Modric will leave
Without a doubt he will leave.... bury your heads in the sand but you know and I know that Harry and Levy know that Modric knows the best option for his career is to leave and with that Harry knows that Modric will leave Obvious WUMMING to get a reaction, I thought idiots like this were blocked on this website. The fact that Modric has openly come out in the press and said that he's happy at Spurs and the only reason he'd move is if it's right for the club and himself. Then there is Harry saying that there is no way that we'd let any of our top players go as we won't to build on a successful squad instead of weakening the team. If Harry did let any of our better players go, the fans would be calling for his job at spurs to come to an end.
If lets Utd or Chelsea come calling and offer to triple his wages and offer CL football, he will leave. I am sorry but a player like him should be playing CL football.
"If lets Utd or Chelsea come calling and offer to triple his wages and offer CL football, he will leave. I am sorry but a player like him should be playing CL football. " Not always!! Your club and Chelsea don't have the god given right to hand pick what players you want. It's up to us if we want to sell and Modric is on a long term contract so if we don't want to sell to your stupid bacon nosed manager then we don't sell because he's OUR PLAYER!! Yes were not in the CL this season but the likes of Modric Bale etc see spurs as a club going places with ambition. If next season we don't make the champions league then i will accept them to move on. We have had a taste of Champions league and with the right signings can make the top 4 again. Modric is happy at spurs wether you like it or not and his comments clearly state that. He has no intention of leaving and alll he was saying was if spurs had a deal that was to good then he would consider a move...... wouldn't every player though?
Thanks ShelfSideSpur.........still getting used to the new systems. MessiaHarry......do you think that if Levy sells Modders then Harry will stay? I think it would completely undermine what Harry is trying to do. I believe he has said to the likes of VDV, Modders, Bale....give us one more season. We will bring in a marque signing, we will push for that CL spot and also push for the league which is what he was proposing this season. Don't get me wrong, if we do not cut it next year, they will all leave and we will have to start from scratch and probably wait another 50 years. But I think he will have told the players, we will make it our main target, use the squad players for the Europa, keep them happy.
Snowy jes thats a tough one mate. I don't know enough about Harry and his principles to know if he would leave or whatever but he doesnt seem to me to be the type to walk unless he had something better lined up. I think when Harry says in the press we will not sell our players hes actually talking as much to Levy as he is to us.
I completely agree with Levy that getting rid of the surplus players first is a must. Most of our valuations on the players are based on the transfer market of a few years ago. Money will fly around for any unique players that are really in demand but players like Keane, Bentley and Gio are ten a dozen and sides aren't going to pay anywhere near the amounts some are expecting when there's so many other similar players of a similar level out there.
I'm pretty sure the players know what the club is capable of, with a few minor adjustments. Our downfall was the inability to kill teams off, esp at home. Is it completely unrealistic to think that we couldn't have turned 3 of those home and 1 of the away draws into wins, therefore finishing 2nd? I don't think so I know it's all ifs and buts, but that is exactly where we are! A fully fit JD all season firing them in the way he did the previous campaign could have seen us right where we want to be!
