But I can't! The occasional glimpse of the team playing near it's potential, the last few wins giving me hope that we could survive, but precious little else. I'd like to believe that it was bad luck, and bad refereeing that done us in the end, and we have had those without doubt, but it was shooting ourselves in the foot (the one place we were sure to score) that finally sent us on our way. With the players we have, the management, owners and supporters we had every right to have been comfortably lower mid-table this season. The final hammer blows were the succession of must/win games that we managed to lose before our home form began to improve, too late. I really really hope we can get through this summer with our ownership intact, and a settled squad. That is my real fear for our future.
Playing an out of form Tottenham side on saturday, If we win our two home games I think we will survive! Believe!
Because sadly they can beat ManU and then Arse and we can't even beat a West Brom team with nothing to play for. That result last night was very bad for us. I said after Wigan beat ManU that it would cause problems for us. Now Man City,Spurs and Chelsea all have something to play for. I hear people saying we can beat spurs because they are on a low yet they then say spurs will beat Bolton? It does not work that way. We are all hoping for too many permitations and it won't happen. If we get relegated i see a million posts on what went wrong but... We simply have not been good enough this season and have gone about our business in the wrong way.
No doubt we will turn in some great performances over the next 4 games, possibly even the best of our season, but that's not enough; we need Bolton and Wigan's cooperation (like they had been doing) in continuing to lose games. Wigan have given up that notion, and Bolton? We don't know yet. I suppose the best way to look at it is that they have 6 games to **** it up in, we only have 4!
Looking forward to an away match at Leeds next season. In all honesty tho, if, we end up relegated the owners may as well take a punt (Like Newcastle did a few years back) and keep the squad in tact for one season and give it a massive push for promo next season. This way if all goes well, we'll have a team with a winning mentality, had another year to 'gel' and will hopefully come back stronger the following season with a few new additions in the prem. Im sure the gates wont drop as we saw last season once the team picks up form the stands seem to fill more often, and away fans will fill their allotment as we will be seen as 'The team to beat'.....on paper anyway. TBH, id rather we stayed up this year tho (because I want to see a midfield trio of Barton Diakite and Faurlin)
