I’ve seen him for the under-21s a couple of times and I’d say no, at Championship level at least. He can score goals and is fairly quick but technically he’s way off, in my opinion. I thought similar about Sandat. Sandat was highly-rated when we got him and he also scored goals in the academy but when I saw him, his first touch was terrible and the ball just bounced off him. Jarvis on the other hand is a gifted footballer with good dribbling ability, pace, finishing etc. but his work rate and desire lets him down massively. He has the ability to play at Championship level but I think he won’t play higher than League One for most of his career. I wanted Sellars-Fleming to play a good 30-60 minutes against Doncaster to see how he’d fare and rest Pedro, for what it’s worth.
its quite common that aint it players below pro level can score for fun, but most dont make it at higher pro level, the margins are so small, the time to shoot etc is smaller even making it at league 2 level is a massive accomplishment though i always think of craig ***an as an example of a limited player who insane hard work and effort lead to him playing at a higher level, jarvis should be ashamed
Absolutely. Of all the players that go through a club’s academy, if you manage to make it as a professional first-teamer at a League Two club, you’ve done better than most. Lots of lads from academies end up in the 7th or 8th tier or just do something else with their lives if they get released.
More amazed he didn’t throw on TSF towards the end. Pedro playing all 120 minutes was an odd decision
Rather than signing a player who may or may not score goals why don't we get the players we already have to practice kicking the ball and actually hitting the target.
pedro has very good endurance he just doesnt have that extra yard of pace anymore he made a tackle in the 119th min yesterday near our own box, its no sweat for him i genuinely think he could play as a deep lying midfielder at times for us
Pedro is an incredible athlete though, you can tell he’s worked with some top conditioning coaches. Also, I can understand why he didn’t throw on any youth players, he wanted to win the game. Had we not attacked like feather dusters, they probably would have featured.
The way we set up with Pedro and the two wingers looks like a 4-3-3 on paper but in reality, it's more like a diamond. You've got the holding midfielder, the two number 8s, Pedro as a number 10 almost and the two wingers press and play quite narrow in possession. It reminds me a bit of the shape Ancelotti used at Madrid last year with Bellingham as the number 10/false 9 and Vini Jr. and Rodrygo as two mobile strikers who could drift wide or run in behind. This is why I think it's crucial we have wingers who are quick and fairly mobile.
I assume that is the role geldhart will play for the main part off the right or left coming central, when Pedro is starting up top. Seems to make sense from the bits I know about him as a player.
The left image is how we line up on paper and the right image is the shape we usually have when pressing and when in possession.
I think this is partly why we found it difficult yesterday in the final third. We lacked the width to stretch them, which was even more noticeable when Giles went off. Played into their hands a bit, allowing them to be compact.
Yeah, by having the wingers play narrow almost as mobile strikers and Pedro dropping deep, it requires both fullbacks to provide the width by overlapping.
