A 1-0 scoreline will do me just fine thank you very much (especially today), but there's always the spectre hanging over us of letting it slip like last Tuesday. Yes, it can be said it was a lucky deflected strike that did us in the 6th minute of extra time - so what? That can always happen, and we lost two points through earlier poor finishing and not killing the game off. The week before at the CCS, I'd watched us boss Blackburn off the park and beat them by a seemingly comfortable 3-0, but it was only 1-0 until the 86th minute when Mason's superb strike gave us the second. In between, that Kazim-Richards bloke bounced the ball off the top of the crossbar with Marshy well beaten - it could easily have dropped in and we'd have struggled to win it from there. The Whitts extra time penalty to make it 3 was just gloss. Seems our most important goal could be our second not the first. Getting that first one can be more of a burden to us than going one down because it can bring the opposition out. If we score first today, I just hope we can get a second to provide a cushion against conceding a soft goal. Memories of Nugent's own goal at the death against the wurzels also stick in my mind - after outclassing them from start to finish, thank God we had the second goal.
Totally agree Sparkey. I hope we boss this lot today and win emphatically. I fear that nerves may creep in if we don't score early for once.
About time for Velikonja esp if Campbell doesn't make it, how many goals has he put in for our reserves, 15 or so? really wish I knew why Malky refuses to use him, could just provide those extra goals we've needed.
