Good shout for the draw on an earlier thread Hilts - I thought we could beat them with some style but there's something about the goal scoring ability of this squad that worries me. I'll take Champions of the division all day long, but I sometimes wonder if we've got there by being generally good at keeping other teams out rather than being able to kill them off at the other end. I know we're second top scorers in the Championship behind Watford, but the number of chances that have gone begging this season is amazing. Have we've been unlucky with strikes deflected wide and over the bar rather than going in, or do we need a clinical finisher to even survive up there next season and not just rely on goals from "all over the park"? It might not matter as long as they go in, but I doubt we'll get the same opportunities next year - and we need to bury the ones we do get.
Frazier and Nicky will be back soon. As a certain Prime Minister once said, Rejoice at that news. Malky will fill the gaps Spark.
It is a conundrum, second top scores but no one in double figures. We will need someone to bury the chances we create as the set piece won't be as effective against prem defences. Let's wait and see what business MM does in the next few months.
I like to think of it as everyone has put in a good shift, rather than bemoan the lack of a double figure scorer. I have been left feeling less than happy with quite a few of our games this season and the way we have played in them. But here we are, promoted as champions! I doubt we would be able to compete in the PL as we are now, but I expect changes to happen that hopefully will make us tighter than we are now, a 1-0 in the PL is gold so I'm not going to worry about getting goals from all over the park.
Had the same conversation during the game yesterday Sparky. Two chances from inside the 6 yard box missed. Smith in second half and I think it was Connolly in the first. Granted they were saved but from that distance, either net should have been bulging. We may not get many of those chances next year and have to take every one we do get. Im sure Malky is on the case as we speak though...will be an interesting summer thats for sure
Wasnt it Mutch who missed the first one? The PL won't let us miss chances like that but tbf the Championship didn't as we only got a draw. I agree with what ITIwran says that MM knows better than us what we need and he'll sign the right players.
As far as I can see top strikers seem to miss more than anyone as they get a lot more chances. Somehow, don`t ask me how, we finished comfortably as champions with our stats showing we were the best team over the season. The last hard working side to go up was Stoke. After all the pressure to finish in the top two here how nice just to have to finish out of the bottom three lol!!! First season Malky did a lot better than most people expected, this season he has surpassed all our expectations. I`m not bothered who we get, our manager has proved his worth and Tan will support him all the way. Everything in the garden is rosy, enjoy. jck
Not so worried about having a double figure scorer in the team, although it would be nice, as I am about being caught out on the break like we have in so many matches this season. It happened again yesterday, we were dominating the game, and then one quick break and we were 1-0 down. Same sort of thing happened against Brighton, twice! We peppered their goalkeeper in that game, but failed to score a single goal.
How can we be worried at a time like this? Most of the sides in the premier this season have struggled to win games. A top six finish is where we usually finish. Some of the performances from Man City this season would have cost them in the championship. Harry is more scared of the championship than the premier league, its the hardest to get out of thats why and guess what we won it!!! I am confident. jck
