Talk about reality checks. If articles carry a basic message, this one's particularly poignant being all about the difference between owners' wealth and that of small football clubs. As we know, when these rich guys spend, it's not their good money going after bad, it's the clubs'... and that's why QPR is four times poorer than when the Goons took over. Kinda know that really but it looks worse in print! Clive's on one at the moment ain't he? Well capable journo but why do these FN / LFW articles need to be so long? Do they do hardcopy stuff that dictates wordage or something? Problem is, Cive Whittingham's writing suffers in one way or another when he does too much. Yesterday we had 'ficture' as in fittings or event, today Warnock's been deprived of one of his seven promotions. Don't want to get too pedantic but these examples illustrate my more subtle point: the intelligent stuff that makes us read between the lines is what I like about Clive's work - and that's also been conspicuously missing of late. Nevermind... worse things happen at QPR!
