As we're in the top 4 currently (although it obviously won't be for long) it got me thinking about the number of wins which are expected of a club that far up across the whole season.

Last season, Arsenal in 4th place achieved 11 home wins. Now in my opinion, these are the home games which ARE winnable on paper for us in our current form:

vs Fulham - Already won that so there's one
    vs Blackburn
    vs Wigan
    vs Swansea
    vs West Brom
    vs QPR
    vs Wolves
vs Sunderland (probs best team out of them all, but they never do well at our place)
    vs Norwich
    vs Bolton

Now in my view, they are 10 home games which we are very capable of winning at St James Park. Obviously the chances of doing this are miniscule, as we're bound to **** up somewhere down the line on more than one occasion, but if we focus and take these games seriously, we could find ourselves having quite an impressive home record. If Bolton got the 10 home wins last season, we should be able to get somewhere near that at least.

All in all, if we lose more than just 2/3 of these games, I might actually feel a little disappointed.

Would put Everton and Villa at home in that category as well. If we can average 2 points against these teams then we will finish high up.

Didn't mention Everton in the list along with a number of other good sides, so even without them there's still 10 winnable home games there. Blackburn are of course a threat too, but we have the ability to take them.

Way of football means we'll inevitably lose against Wigan but grab a cheeky win against a Liverpool or Spurs or similar. You're right though, target those home wins and if we get anything else who knows where we finish. I'm optimistic, that's why mrtiote and bano are on my ignore list...

Nothing like a decent bit of optimism - don't optimists live longer too? lol

Things never work out exactly as you'd like but actually a doable target to set sights on!
It's the damned draws that we seem to pick up rather than wins though.

And how wonderful would a finished table like this be at the end of the season: :-D

Oddly enough Bano and Mrtiote have become reasonable posters now.

Blackburn aren't the team they were last season.

They might beat us. There's every possibility. But if there's ever a time where we can beat them, it's now.

I normally would, but this whole 'top dogs finishing above you guys' thing is the only thing most mackems seem to have left for ammo. We have quite a number of points ahead at the moment, but it's only early days and I expect that to fluctuate throughout the season. If this season is anything like the last one, then this point gap were picking up early on could mean the difference between finishing above or below as the end of the season draws near.

No doubt some of the unwashed would want us to lose no matter what if faced with the same situation.

I remember when they were partying about Bolton beating us 5-1 even though it pushed them a few places down the table.<doh>
