    Hi,
I was just wondering if any of you guys could help me with a University project on Coca Cola- and their time sponsoring the Football League. I know that Leeds won the 'Win a Player' competition and remember there being some controversy as you didn't actually receive any money for a player? Or have I got that wrong..? I can't seem to find any info on it online so was just wondering if anyone remembers this competition and if you actually did receive money or not?
Any help will be much appreciated!

I think we had the highest number of votes cast, but then Coca Cola put the top 10 into a hat and picked one club out at random, or something like that. Otherwise the club with the biggest fan base would walk it every time, gives the smaller clubs a chance of winning.

There's plenty of info about this online, I would have thought a university student would have been able to dig something up. I'm sure even Coca Cola themselves would have been happy to help you get the facts straight.

Anyone would think you're trying to wind us up or something.......

I actually thought it was Southampton who won the draw in the end.

I hope your conclusion will be that it's an utter embarrassment to have football divisions and cup competitions named after companies, and that all the commercial-fetishizing dross should be left to the Yanks.

You'll have to think of something better than that to get rid of Paynter <laugh>

Aaah yes, was brilliant at one stage that young fella.

We definitely did win it one year though and like I said before, it payed half of BWP's transfer fee :)
