    From the Mirror

England boss Roy Hodgson is putting Celtic centre half Kelvin Wilson on standby for a debut call - after his Champions League heroics.

The big and quick defender has caught the eye of the Three Lions chief who has pencilled him for a squad place in the coming internationals.

Wilson has emerged in the SPL after joining from Nottingham Forest and Hodgson told the Celtic hierarchy of his admiration on a visit to their clash with Juventus last week.

The exiled star has move ahead of some rivals because he is playing every week and regularly appearing in his best position.

Manchester United pair Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have been unable to claim the starting berths in central defence to give Hodgson a problem.

Wilson showed his class in the double header with Barcelona and has put himself right into the England picture, possibly for the next squad.

Mixed feelings about this. Happy for Kelvin James Wilson getting the recognition he deserves and of course, his value rising but international duties carry the increased risk of too many games being played and injuries, for which Celtic could pay a heavy price in the long run ...

Imagine someone told you 12 months ago that Kevin Wilson would get an England call up in 2013. You'd have punched them in the face for being silly.

I think Wilson is going to England for a stag do , not to play football.

    Hmmm

He's being doing really well for Celtic and has improved at lot since last season but England cap call!!

Tho - England should, for their next friendly, give Forster, Wilson and Hooper a go ... no real harm done!.

He's my player of the year so far this season, I very happy with him in our side and would be more upset at losing him than hooper.

    As for England, I don't give a flying ****.

    Give him a cap!

    His "value" will instantly quadruple.

Prior to Ambrose arriving, Wilson was doing my dinger right in.

Ambrose liking possession even more than he does, seems to have got Kelvin back to straightforward defending instead of turning and running towards our byline waiting to be fouled. Since Efe arrived, we've seen the best of Wilson - just getting it done and cutting out the fannying about.

Even though we played a good team on Saturday, the two goals were preventable even if they came from brilliant play.

Ambrose and Wilson together are the best pair of Centre Halves we've had in ages, I reckon and Mulgrew slots in with them extremely comfortably but we're still losing preventable goals.

I would still prefer a better backup than Mulgrew, or perhaps young Fraser can step in now. Ronge is to fragile.

Dev I don't agree that he was excellent last Tuesday, he didnt do badly by any means.
The whole Celtic team were caught sleeping in the 3rd minute. It seems to me that
Celtic's two full backs and three midfielders were all ball following , up the field.
Only one Juventus attacker attacking, Wilson should have got over to make it
two against one if Ambrose made a mistake, he didn't and our goalie should
have went out, when Wilson didn't come across . Result a stupid goal, Ambrose
primary to blame but Wilson and goalie in that order to blame too.
A defender cannot learn positioning, it's a natural skill. Wilson I have
seen runs goal side of attacker and thus plays him on side, as they are going
towards Celtic goal if cross is accurate he can do nothing, if he just behind he
can throw himself at the ball and get it away. Wilson good enough at heading
Tackling and clearing, but his positional sense will always cause him trouble.
