http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-star-jack-wilshere-faces-1844207 His season is probably over, and he will have the ankle surgery once the season has ended. Apparently injury is not too serious but requires replacement of the pin which was inserted into his ankle in September 2011. He will also miss the two England internationals in June.
According to that article the current injury is not serious, so I think Wenger might nurse him through the last four games. Yes, he has not been great since returning from injury but he is a brilliant talent and just to have him as an option for these last four games is great because he had the skills to be a game changer.
Yet again, another Arsenal player gets a routine injury, that develops into a long lingering saga. The league is full of players who have a high impact physical game, yet our let ..... well. This has been a problem for a good few years now. Rosciky was flying in 2007/08, got injured, was out for a whole year, and has struggled to fully shake it off. Old Mr Glass Diaby too. Questions about our medical staff and general conditioning of teh players needs to be questioned.
There must be another answer other than 'our players get kicked more'. Why are our players out for so bloody long?
The Bear mentioned something on another thread about Wenger not believing in weight training. Not sure how true it is, but that would account for a lot of the injuries that Arsenal pick up.
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wilshere-set-for-very-minor-surgery- Confirmed by the club. Let's hope this is not one of those 'minor' injuries that keeps him out for 6 months, because I think it's vital that he has a full pre-season ahead of the new season.
I think this is fairly common and it is not because it is actually troubling him. I believe that there are some of these pins that are taken out after a fracture has healed, no matter what. They are not designed to stay in place for ever. That is why the surgery is "not unexpected". He is not actually suffering any pain or issue with the ankle, so he should not miss time before the end of the season, if I have it right.
I think it is not ALL weight-training he is against. I believe I saw the quote that was taken from and he said that the prohibition is on upper-body weight training, and specifically said weight-training was useful when returning from injury or in special circumstances when players were not able to train normally.
It's tricky because the best movements for explosive sports like football are compound lifts like squats, deadlifts and cleans which work both upper and lower body. Wengers attitude on the matter is beyond outdated. It makes me wonder how Rosicky and Diaby would do with a quality stregth training regime. Strengthening the muscles, building flexibility and actually a little less time spent Running.(which has a greater impact on the joints) Wilshere should be ok. Apparently the operation is to remove a screw in his foot that is causing pain whenever he runs. Should be relatively minor but it does explain why he has'nt yet returned to his best.
I know you are a big fan of it and we have discussed it before. I'm kind of torn, I used weight training when I played rugby, but my tennis suffered dreadfully when I did it. Maybe I didn't do it right or if I could have specialized differently if I was training for the tennis, but I think it can be very difficult to get it right, even if you are an expert, and you never really know how each individual's body is going to react.
here is what RVP said http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...rsie-puts-form-down-to-weight-gain_68578.html
I can totally endorse this. I used to play both tennis & table tennis at regional level before having to quit one because the training needed for each sport were detrimental to each other. Whodathunkit?
