When Len Shackleton first signed for us in 1948, there was a lot of talk around town about who was our best player, Watson or Shackleton. That should tell you how highly thought of Willie was. Billy Death was 20 years earlier, and I guess, without film we'll never know.
Willie Watson had one leg longer than the other. Probably why he could turn so fast, And why shorts from his shop never seemed to fit properly x.
Haway man, Bobby - your a*se was crooked. Seriously, where did you get that from? Because it does ring a bell. Quarter of an inch or something? Willie had one or possibly two other distinctions. For certain, he had caps for England at both football and cricket (Sunderland and England and Yorkshire and England) - one of only three or four men to do that in the 20th century. The other is on memory only - check it out if you like. In 1924, '25, and '26, Huddersfield Town became the first team ever to win three consecutive league titles. And it sticks in my mind that Willie Watson's father was in that team.
Never saw any of them play so van't give an objective answer.. Billy Death has the most memorable name though..
And that's were may user name stems from. Imagine your father being called Jack Daniels & naming you Paul, lol.
