I didn't know this film existed. Yesterday, the news came out that Vertigo Films had acquired new British movie, Will to distrubute in the UK. Weâd seen one trailer for the film before but now we get the theatrical version which focuses more around Will Bernnan (Perry Eggleton) than it does around Damien Lewis. The film has a great cast and incldues Damian Lewis (Band of Brothers, and Showtimeâs upcoming Homeland), Bob Hoskins (A Christmas Carol, Who Framed Roger Rabbit) and Alice Krige (Chariots of Fire, Star Trek: First Contact) and also features cameos by Liverpool Football Club manager Kenny Dalglish, and Liverpool superstar footballers Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard. Eleven-year-old Will Brennanâs (Perry Eggleton) life is turned upside down when his long-absent father (Damian Lewis) reappears with tickets to the 2005 Champions League Final in Istanbul. But when fate intervenes, Will runs away to Istanbul for the biggest soccer match of the year, searching for meaning in a world that seems to have abandoned him.
I saw a trailer for it at the cinema earlier in the year and thought: 'that should be worth a shout when it comes out.' But then heard nothing further about it. I assumed it had gone straight to DVD (not everyone shares in the hope, despair and joy message of Istanbul, I guess!) So now I'm confused. Maybe it never came out after all? My only word of warning - manage your own expectations when it comes to any sports-related movies (especially footie ones...) GKRK
Si is it yet to come out in the cinema? Or a straight to DVD film? Or straight to TV? Like the Munich film earlier this year.
This is also well worth watching.
