Reading over some of the latest threads it's clear that despite our new arrivals we all agree that we need more signings especially in defence. I'm certain we will make signings over the next few days/weeks but the question is will you be disappointed if we dont make a headline sgning? the sort of transfer that really shows that Saints are back and mean business. I remember still where I was in Feb 1980 when I heard we had signed Keegan and can recall the excitement and optimism that caused. Will you be upset if the Don doesn't splash the cash?
I want the right players and would hope that we have the money for them, but don't need a marquee signing necessarily. That would impress outsiders, but I would hope we all know what's going on at the club anyway. A relative unknown that turns out to do a good job for us would be fine by me.
As long as we get players in the right area and they are of the required standard I don't mind. Will I be disappointed if we don't make a marquee signing? No. In any case, was spending near on £7m on JR not a signal of intent?
As DTLW said, doesn't smashing our club transfer record count as a marquee signing? The only 'Marquee' signings we can expect are people who were names but are getting on a bit. For instance, David Beckham would be a marquee signing...
Its the right players that count - so a marquee signing is not important. It might actually be detrimental to the squad also; i.e. causes tension in the changing room.
I agree that we don't necessarily need a Marque signing but am still looking forward to seeing a couple of players joining the cruise
Now, now...bit more optimism required. Hitting the gold, weapons fully loaded (bit of a double entendre there!).
What I want more than anything is players with more premier league experience. We have a relatively young squad with literally no experience in the top flight. I think Steve Davis was a a top, top signing but we need one or two more like him that to make me happy.
I'll only be disappointed if we don't make any more signings, I'm not expecting a "headline" signing like Gaston Ramirez because we have to be realistic. However I'd like "subheadline" signings, if you will, like the player's we've signed already. Not "stop the press" but ones where all of us can be happy knowing we've improved the team.
Every time I come on here I end up feeling gloriously uninformed about football. I have no idea who Gaston Ramirez is, all I know is that signing him would be a 'major coup'.
Don't feel guilty, it's better to not know him and admit you don't know him than look him up on FIFA and pretend you know the ins and outs of his game like I'm sure most people do.
I no longer bother...I will be interested when they hold up a Saints scarf with Nigel's arm round their shoulder and not before.
