Lineker has taken to twitter to say the following:

Brilliant tactics from Newcastle board to delay appointing their new manager so they don't have to buy any players in the transfer window.

I honestly think Fattie will delay and delay and we will enter the second half of the season with no reinforcements and the likely sale of Sissoko.
Don't forget HBA is off the wage bill too.
I think this move is tactical and part of Fatties plan to sell the club.
We will be expected to limp along (possibly with Carver) until the summer so a new owner has a clean slate.
Jonas and Mapou will be off the wage bill too by then so that will help 'fatten the goose' for sale so to speak.
I can just see the conversation now....

MA - 'JC.. over to you now son... play the kids to raise the value of our playing assets and I'll give you a nice tidy bonus in the summer before I move North to take on Rangers'.....

    We need reinforcements badly.

Saylor is out for the season, HBA and Mapou have left and there was a time those three would be certain starters.
Add to that the impending departure of Sissoko and the fact that Chuckie is AWOL and Riviere is yet to impress and we have real problems.

For me... the signing of a CB and a Striker are paramount. Sissoko would be replaced by Abeid potentially but those two positions are critical however I feel that is a view our owner doesn't share....

No. We will sign nobody and there is a good chance Sissoko will go. I reckon he will go last day of the window, thus giving the excuse that we didn't have time to sign anybody. Predictable and pathetic.

Lineker has been reading Martin Samual's column in the Mail where he has put this forward, seems to be the plan that letting things drift costs Ashley far less than appointing someone to steer the team forwards, as for selling the club to go play in the SFA I think that has actually got further away with the SFA's obvious dislike of Ashley and their take any action to block him, the lack of any potential buyers for PL Clubs also puts the kybosh on this as well.

Absolutely we will, If by strengthen you mean sell a player or two and limp to the summer with Carver in charge narrowly avoiding (hopefully) the relegation zone/dog fight. Other than that ...probably not.

We are out of the cups, 13 plus points short of the only goal that ambitious teams dream and strive for ..PL survival, 17 games to play, everything to play for.

IF ..and its a huge if ..we do get a manager in ... its a definate maybe ..A forward and a CB are desperately needed ...but include a ball playing MF in that statement and its what we have all been saying for the last 2 odd years, so is unlikely to change.

We are struggling to get a new coach over the line so getting new players is a definite NO. Expect the sale of Sissoko though before any new coach can complain.

Potentially Mbwia could be coming back, but if i was Roma i'd pay the £5.5, his defo woth that. Sissoko is as good as gone, Carver is as good as appointed, but I think the club is far from sold.

News that the mancs are interested in Ayoze, depending on the sale of the club, Ashley might be interested in cashing in already.

The wage bill in comparison to the incomings must be the best it has ever been and probably as good as any club has ever had. however it doesnt make for good viewing on a Saturday afternoon and ultimatley this is an entertainment business.

I know it's a nice conspiracy theory to think that the club will use the non appointment of a head coach as the reason for not buying anyone in the January window but I don't see it myself.

The whole point in appointing a head coach rather than a manager is so that they know that they will have little say in who is brought in. So the club can't say that this was the reason for not bringing in anyone.

Of course I could be wrong but if the club do use this excuse someone should point out this flaw in their argument.

Of course we will. Look at the facts:

    1. The club have a stated policy of loving to buy in January because there is generally no value outside of soon to be out of contract players
    2. Mike is very kind and caring. He can see we desperately need help, particularly at centre back
    3. Carver is very persuasive. Why would you want to hand this mercurial genius a budget?
    4. I'm pretty sure our January expenditure will far outweigh what we recouped in January windows during Mikes reign...
    5. Strengthen could simply mean putting them all on a heavy weights programme anyway

If they offered 5.5m for Mbiwa I'd have to side with the club, it would be very tempting to take that. It mitigates what has turned out to be a poor piece of transfer business. Yes we could do with him back, but only because we are short. Being honest he is a decent centre back in the right style of football. He himself has admitted England was not for him so I'd take the money while you still can.

I think Sissoko will stay unless there is astronomical money on the table. Is anyone that desperate? He'd suit Arsenal but he is not exactly a priority as a forward going player. They need imposing defensive players in midfield and at the back, even Wenger has admitted this. The only thing is Cabaye is unhappy in Paris. If there was a club somewhere willing to pay good money for him to be their main man then PSG might replace him with Sissoko and could pay the silly money. There is a lot of things that need to fall into place to make it happen though. I think it is more likely Liverpool will replace Gerrard with Cabaye, PSG taking Sissoko. The problem of course with it is Sissoko wants to play in England. So did Cabaye until they waved the money at him though.

We won't buy anyone. Sissoko will go and I reckon Cisse will as well. If Carver is then made manager until the end of season we will be in a right fight. We still need what 4 wins and a draw to be totally safe? Those points look very far away if that bottom feeder is managing us.

I think any new signings would have been here already if there had been any fore-planning.

I can easily envisage the club selling a couple of players late in the window. Thus rendering the 'no time to buy replacements' excuse back in full swing.

With De Jong on his way back, I can easily see Sissoko leaving. I would be surprised if he didn't to be honest. Newcastle United are mid-table at best and with no ambition being shown by the board, why would Sissoko stay? I've a sneaky feeling Liverpool may be in for him if Ballotelli or Lambert get moves like rumoured.

looks like Mackems will be signing Defoe for £80k per week.
Was a canny player in his pomp but at 34 a bit over the hill I feel.
Still.. a step up for them and he has vital experience.

Them figures must be exaggerated ACS? I can't see them being that stupid regardless how much trouble they're in. They've had a bad couple of weeks and everyone is off the deep end. My mackem mates are suicidal but even they pointed out they could go as high as 12th this weekend. As with last season, the league hasn't sorted itself yet. The one thing I would say is Burnley and Leicester look like they have a bit of fight about them. Palace will scrap under Pardew. West Brom - Pulis has never been relegated yet.

Hull and QPR would be 2 I would worry for. Maybe those two plus one more (we're not out of this yet). The problem Sunderland may have is there was a freedom last year because it seemed like they were already gone at xmas. Now they are hovering. I think they should have enough but whether Defoe will help them I'm not sure. 80k would be a budget blower and I wouldn't fancy all my eggs in that injury prone basket. I assume the wages must be a lot less.

Perhaps the best thing you can say about Ashley is that the days when we might have ended up with Defoe are dead and gone

80k was being thrown about before he'd even agreed terms. We have a wage structure and close to the threshold for ffp. It would be unwise to believe the early speculation over his wages. Especially as those details originated from across the atlantic. 50k +apearance fee+ goal Bonus will be closer I reckon.

How would Charnley have the time to recruit a manager or strengthen the team when he's having to man the phone day and night waiting for the Sissoko bids to come in? Come on, be fair. He's only human.

Zero recruitments this January. I think we all know the script by now.
