Will we start 2011-12 better than we finished 2010-11?

This is the team we finished last season with.

    Weale

    Naughton Vitor Bruma Van Aanholt

    Wellens Abe King

    Vassell Yakubu Gallagher

Subs: Smith, Tunchev, Teixeira, Oakley, Dyer, Kamara, Howard

This is a possible team to start this season.

    Schmeichel

    Peltier Bamba Mee Masilela

    Gallagher Danns King Whittingham

    Nugent CMS

Subs: Weale, Tunchev, Abe, Wellens, Se Tae, Wahorn, Schlupp.

My question is, are our new signings making us stronger than our team of loanees last season?

Proudfox - to me, we look better in midfield with your line up but probably weaker up front. The only reason your team for next season looks better defensively is because of Matt Mills, who I doubt we will sign.

The point is...are we, and the media for that matter, getting a bit carried away by how good we are going to be next season? I'm sure we will do well and finish in the top 6 but I think people are forgetting the strength we have lost over the summer with the loanees returning to their parent clubs.

Yeah we all get carried away but thats the beauty of football. Sven and the owners have caused excitment and optimism

The amount of time I spend on here gassing about football probably proves your point.

But...don't you think there is a need for a bit more caution and restraint from fans? Maybe I'm being pessimistic but are we talking ourselves up for a fall?

When we won League One I was proud of our fans. We did it with decorum and dignity and never stooped to putting down other clubs. I think that has changed now and a fair chunk of arrogance has seeped in.

If we are not as good as we think we are next season...reality might bite pretty hard !!!

Lets give Peltier a chance first. I wouldnt be surprised if Kyle Naughton is playing for us next season

I'm sure Peltier will be a great player but Kyle Naughton's boots will take a lot of filling. Without any criticism of Peltier, surely he has to be seen as a step down from Naughton who looked top of the Prem quality?

I reckon Pelts will be good for us.

He'll be solid and hardworking and capable of the pace kof the championship.

    He'll be fine, trust me.

Would prefer Masilela over PVA (and Berner over PVA tbh)
Would prefer Mee or Mills over Bruma (Vitor still could return on loan?)
    Would prefer Danns over Abe
Would prefer Nugent/CMS or Maynard over Vassell/Yakubu (don't get me wrong i like Vassell, just think hes being played in the wrong position)
    Would like a front line of RF:Gally CF:Nugent/Vassell LF:CMS/Maynard

We are hoping that Peltier is going to be almost a straight swap for Naughton, dont boo him after 1 game if he isnt as good as Naughton.

It was never a question of being boo'd - Im excited to see Pelt’s in action but Naughton was a revelation last season!

There will prob be a few fans that will be saying after our first home game "ZoMG, hes not as good as Naughton, why don't we have Naughton!" Actually sounds like something Strings would say on the radio.

I would rather have a perm signing than a loan player any day. I'm chuffed to have Peltier and I'm sure he will be a great player for us.

But...unless we have been very, very lucky...he probably won't be as good as Naughton. Not many right backs are.

LeicesterWizard - I think you are right that Masilela will be better than PVA, Mills would be better than Bruma but don't think we'll get him, Mee would be marginally better than Bruma.

I'm not sure Nugent or CMS will be better than Yakubu.

So...Looking at the team which played Ipswich I think 4 are better and 2 probably not so good. We maybe have a slightly better bench too.

As long as we start 2011-12 better than we started 2010-11 then I think we will be ok!

If we get Maynard our forward line of him, Gallagher and Nugent would be very strong. If it's 4-4-2 Maynard and CMS could be a great partnership.

Of the loans last season, we are weaker without Naughton no doubt, but we should be able to get Mee. Maybe Vitor on another loan? Tunchev will hopefully be back, if we got Mills as well I'd be very happy with the defence.

I think overall we will definitely be stronger, but a lot of our striking prowess may be down to whether we sign Maynard or not.

And if we can't, then with we might be looking at players scoring from midfield, such as Whittingham?

Well I hope that would be the case anyway. King and Whittingham (if he came) would both potentially chip in with 15 goals each. That would be fantastic. Of course Whittingham is just a rumour at the moment. Last season only King really scored from midfield and that's an area Sven will want to strengthen.

It's not the end of the world if we don't get Maynard. Nugent, CMS and even Waghorn COULD be capable of getting us 20+ goals. But I'd definitely feel a lot more confident with Maynard leading the line.

How many times have we been surprised this summer?

If we don't get CMS or Maynard, I'm sure Sven has someone else up his sleeve.

Naughton will take some matching but the rest of the defence wasn't great last year, Peltier may not live up to Naughtons high standards week in week out but i believe he will do a decent job at right back and can help out else where as well. Chances are as a unit the defence will seep less goals next season compaired with last season!. I can also see Sven reverting to 4 4 2 next season as he declared that to be his prefference last season but felt the midfield wasn't strong enough to cope!!!!. Not sure if Naughton is a dead donkey as far as a deal goes but if any possibillity of a deal could be ressurected loan or permanent then i would love to see him play rm in a 4 4 2 with peltier giving support behind.

Sven will play a system which suits the players he has, last season it was 4-5-1 mostly

He now has the chance to rebuild and bring in who he likes.

He will change the system to suit opposition and home away fixtures.

He also needs the route one option when all the pretty stuff doesn't work.

    We trust in Sven?
