Call me old-fashioned, but a bit of Don Robinson style hoopla or Adam Pearson hard sell would not come amiss. There. I said it.
If you aint got the product you have to sell the bullshit. We are premier league doesnt need selling.
You want a Lawro style forecast of how they think we'll do? Or you want them to make some type of announcement so you can spend the next 3 months picking over it and twisting it into something it ain't?
Is it an 'either...or' ? Some kind of positive message/gesture/statement/interview from the Allams in line with what most other chairmen/presidents have been doing for decades would do me. I could have sworn we got promoted to the toughest/most famous league on the planet a few months back. Did I dream it? Should we be excited by it or shall we pretend it never happened?
I reckon, they're should be A rallying gut wrenching tribal call by the Allams to their beloved City. A once more unto the breach.Once more. kinda call.To the contigent of loyal supporters to rally the fans, whom season after season feel, of the hopeful wishing & the earnest urgency felt, in supporting the Tigers.True the season will bring more fans, back to the K.C , & away. But , the timing, should be next week. The media outlets are at their disposal.Look North. The H.d.m. sportstalk. e.t.c. Club owners whom are proving prudency, whom the fans trust, high profile voices of reassurance. A big warm fuzzy moment before kick off. If they're silent.I for one, shan't wonder, as I shall be in & outta my seat. Come on U Tigers. Sorry my posts are'nt well structued or Intellegent. I post, in the event, that no one will pay them any mind, anyway. 45 yoa. And Australian educated.Whadd'ya expect.
The Council too should be shouting it from the rooftops. Number One in Yorkshire (again), competing at the highest level, welcoming journalists from all over the world etc But instead we've got a blinkered dinosaur council who hold grudges against our current owners. We struggled to full the ground last season despite the best second tier finish in our history- could we have filled it with a little more razzmatazz and hype from the club? Hull Tigers may be the business side, Hull City is the football side and we are in a competitive market locally for affection and cash. A little reaching out the undecided and uncommitted locally would not come amiss, and fill the ground. The 'take it or leave it' attitude may work in some businesses but not football, not anymore.
To quote Hemmingway, For Whom the Bell Tolls, well it tolls again for us and the established etiquette is that our Premier League bell is rung by the Chairman live on football focus before our first home game in the Premier League, this happens to coincide with whats left of the tubbylard support mustering at their most unlucky ground, Wembley. Perfect time for us to steal Geraghty's Gateshead Thunder and our owners to have a word with the world, the Tigers are back!
Barclays have had 'Congratulations' ads in bus shelters and on large hoardings all summer. Too much to expect the Council and City to offer summat also? Do we have any civic pride ? I accept the Sea Shanty Festival is what really puts us on the map but how about some pro football publicity/hype?
Given we haven't sold out season passes and there's still thousands of tickets available for the Norwich game I'd say that's the wrong attitude to have!
