This is Pompeys remaining fixture list and I thought it would be fun to see what game if any given their present form people think they might win. I think the best they can hope for now is a home draw against Coventry. S****horpe United v Pompey Pompey v Hartlepool United Pompey v Colchester United Bournemouth v Pompey Hartlepool United v Pompey Pompey v Carlisle United Pompey v Pompey Oldham Athletic v Pompey Pompey v MK Dons Crewe Alexandra v Pompey Pompey v Bury Leyton Orient v Pompey Doncaster Rovers v Pompey Pompey v Coventry City Preston North End v Pompey Pompey v Tranmere Rovers Pompey v Stevenage Brentford v Pompey Pompey v Sheffield United Shrewsbury Town v Pompey So that is a single point between now and the end of the season.
Depends what players they manage to hold onto during the window. I think Whittingham finally conceded the other day that they are going to have to play the kids in the new year. Finally the penny might have dropped that that's how you get yourself out of the ****e.
Their manager is afraid they will lose more players as they are only on short contracts...how can you organise a team under those circumstances. I know Godders won't agree, but it's stopped being funny now.
Could Portsmouth end up in a situation where the team is bad enough and the court case drags on long enough that even if they get new owners, they will have been relegated and take their 10 point deduction in League Two?
The court case on the 15th, could possibly end up just being another date setting day probably for another 28 days. Not what we need seeing as the PST are ready and waiting. Though not mathematically, we are pretty much relegated now. If we some how stay up them I'll be over the moon, but that is highly unlikely. In which case I've already been looking at the new grounds I get to go to. Hopefully Plymouth away won't be on a stupid Tuesday night again.
According to BBC the trust have said with the time scale their working to, you will get the minus ten next season.
I swear the standard of football in league one was better when we were down there. Tonight's match was appalling, apart from the young Walsall midfielder. I'd say the standard of football won't be much different in league two, so Pompey could well struggle badly in that division too.
The Walsall manager remarked that there were no stand out teams in league 1 unlike when Leeds and Southampton were down there.
I guess there was us, Leeds, Norwich, Charlton, Brighton & Sheff Wed, so it raised the quality of the league and also made some of the other teams have more "cup finals". Now, with just Sheff Utd as what you would call a "big team" and maybe Coventry (although been too long outside the Prem), its no wonder League One has returned to a more "agricultural" style.
I went to Hartlepool mid week in February 2011 for our only goalless draw of the season! I know Hartlepool aren't good, but it'll be a difficult place for them to go and win.
It'd be nice for our season not to be dictated by financial instability and/or points deductions for once. The last time we've had a season like that since 2009 was the 2010/11 season which strangely enough was the one season in recent years that hasn't resulted in relegation....
