We get a whole variety of player of the year awards over here and it looks like the most obvious winner for them all is Luis Suarez. Statistically he has been the worlds best striker this season.

But could Sturridge in fact be the man for the award. He currently has 18 league goals in 19 games (17 starts), as well as a good number of assists. Yesterday he equaled the record for scoring in the most consecutive PL games. He has shown an array of skills and lets not forget that just over a year ago his chances of succeeding at this kind of level were being written off.

Oh, and lets not forget he is English. We all know how that effects these peoples votes.

    I vote Rooney

Clearly the media hate us so they will give the useless lump it..... Anything bar Suarez who's made lots of assists while he's not scoring. Sturridge should get young player I think..... I think he qualifies?

I checked sturridge birthday is 1 sept 1989 so... He was 24 after the season started BARELY.

The PDA rule is if player is 23 or under on start of season..... For me personally it's wrong but there you go

So he's just as eligible as Bale <ok>

I think young player should be 21 or less at the start

Suarez has been head and shoulders above anyone, he may not have scored in a while but he's been outstanding in nearly every game.

MITO, my first post was going to be: Who the f*ck voted for Rooney? <laugh>

Understand your reasoning, though. I'd have to say even though the press (and rival fans) hate him, they cannot deny what he's done this year with respect to goals, assists and general work rate. He's been a class apart.

Edit: Sterling is in for a late push for the young player award, but I'd say it's going to go to Hazard.

Rooney will win it imo. Rightly or wrongly.

Suarez deserves it though but then karma might have something to say about that.

I think whoever wins it this year will probably come from the team with the title. Just so much compeitition it will be an easy out to seperate. Can see Hazard, Terry if Chelsea win or Aguero, Negredo, Kompany if City win for example.

I'd have to disagree, UiR. I'm sure ALL opposition players 'hate' him, on the pitch; but off it, with the obvious exceptions of Evra and Ivanovich (and maybe not the latter), I think they'd show grudging respect for his footballing ability. Football players often show they are more gracious and cosmopolitan than fans. They might shock you yet.

P.S. If Rooney wins over Suarez this year, on the current forms of both, it would be unambiguously wrong. And I have the feeling even the press would come out and say it should that travesty occur. I'm an optimist. <ok>
