There's obviously going to be lots of talk between now and June in regards to the future vacant Ireland job, and MM will no doubt be on top of a lot of peoples list, but do we think that MM would jump ship if we didnt make promotion (or would he go even if we did get promoted? Secondly, do we even actually care? I personaly don't, as we'll just find someone else that will stear us to mid table mediocricy. In fact, supporting Ipswich is becoming rather boring lately - we'll win a few, lose a few, won't score that many, and won't let that many in this year..there'll be no scandals to hear about. We'll just plod along rather quietly and where you can safely say that we are guaranteed to finish between 14th and 17th this year.
It would be very rare for someone to actually take someone off us... rather than us casting them off first.. Personally I would be extremely concerned, dependent on the timing of it.. we could get a decent manager in, but if it was before Christmas and we were mid table I'd have a few concerns.. if we were mid table (or better) with a handful of games left then it wouldn't concern me as much.. Personally i think Martin O'Neill will get it ahead of Mick. He's Irish, available and wouldn't need to pay us the compensation they would for Mick.
So long as we finish in the top half stretchy I will say we have made progress. I'm not overly worried about Mick leaving, he's shown loyalty to his clubs before and knows that you don't get success after one year in charge of a team. And as you say, if he goes, we'll just have to replace him..............that's football.
wasnt there a story when he signed about a release clause in his contract? I seem to recall he said when trying to dampen them flames that he would like to go back to international management one day but that wouldnt be in the near future (Did i make that up - it rings a bell in the back of my mind somewhere but cant seem to place it) This is another conversation we were speaking about in the pub last night and we didnt think the job was that attractive currently. There better players are all nearing the end of their careers and we couldnt think of much young irish talent. King - not that it neccasarily effects things but O'Neill is Northern Irish.
The Irish won't need to pay compensation for O'Niel but they would for Mick! Are you sure KOPR? Looking at our track record since Evans has been in charge we will end up paying Mick to leave!
The clause was that if ROI came knocking last season he could go for nowt but now they would need to pay us compensation for his services.
I've read somewhere that the clause in Micks contract (if there was/is one) ran out over the summer. I'd hope that he wouldn't go so soon in his Town tenure and regarding his other jobs, he seems to be in them for quite a long period of time, so i'd be very dissapointed if he left part way through the season but then again I think it was clear that he wants the Ireland job and it doesn't appear to come up that much, so who knows. I wouldn't mind so much if he went at the end of a season, obviously dependant on who we appointed, so they could come in and bring their own personel in but if he went part way through this season I think it would be an absolute disaster for us, as I can't see many other managers being able to work very well with the squad we have (maybe Pullis and I'd hate that!!)
Don't worry about it .......if he goes we move on......i'm sure that some will say its the end of ITFC or blame ME for not doing this or doing that........ but its just how football is.
