Apparently Will Kennedy has lost the ride!! I'm not sure who's taking it though but do you guys think this could make a difference? Personally I'm not convinced it will! I hope it does though because I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the horse. I think it's quite easy to blame the jockey when the horse is probably just not good enough!!
loads of exclamation marks!!! for me, the horse just isn't as good as most of us thought. Held by Weird Al twice this season (one time in receipt of 3lbs I believe) and smashed by an underperforming Long Run. I hope it makes a difference but not for me.
Will it make a difference? Absolutely diddly squat difference it'll make. Always a sign of a horse underperforming, or in this case not showing himself to be as good as most of us expected him to, when they chuck the jockey off. Not one difference would another jockey have made to the horses performance this year. Disappointing he was last time, under pressure so early, as I thought he was very promising first time out. Though who knows, maybe the last day he simply was below par for whatever reason. If that is the case and TFR bounces back next time people are bound to laud O'Regan as being the difference which will be a joke in my opinion.
I love an exclamation mark!! Just read as well that he's no longer riding for Paul Webber. Probably because he's been jocked off though to be fair I've never felt WK has been at fault in any of TFR's runs. Hopefully he'll go on to bigger and better things he's ridden a couple for Rebecca Curtis recently so he might still be able to pick up some decent rides.
fwiw I think a different jockey would have got a win out of him in the Charlie Hall, that said I think this is a typical sign of racing. You start losing a few races and the jockey is to blame. A shame for Kennedy.
I'm certainly not blaming the jockey as I haven't watched him riding but I think it's wrong to assume that a jockey doesn't make any difference. If one jockey strikes up a special rapport with a horse it will make a lot of difference. It's amazing how a horses behaviour/mood can change with different riders. Many, of course, just don't give a monkeys who is on their back.
I think it's a shame that Will Kennedy has lost the ride. Like the majority, I think he has done little wrong on the horse so this move seems a little unjustified. I just think the horse is not up to winning at the very top level. He's a good honest 160ish horse but unfortunately nothing more (IMO). I follow Kennedy on Twitter and it has always been apparent how much this horse means to him and his career. Losing the ride will be a bitter blow and one from which it will be difficult to recover.
Note too, that its not just the ride, he has lost all rides for the yard, leaving him riding for Lidderdale and John Berry. That says it all about his relative talents to some of the other jocks. Right decision but I feel for him. Also what about the jock who refused to ride in the Grand Sefton. Thats not tennis is it?
There’s little loyalty in racing I’m afraid, people. Never has been and I’m fairly certain that there never will be. If I had a walnut for everytime an owner moved his horse to another yard, an owner or a trainer replaced a jockey or a jockey switched from one beast to the other I’d be able to open a shop selling the things. Have no real strong views on Kennedy as a rider but I’ve always thought Denis O’Regan first rate. I’ve said before if I was either Mr Henderson or Alan King then I’d put him up on a significant number of animals. I see Time For Rupert’s next race is at Newbury a week today. What race is there for him there?!? Nothing leaps into the old Chuckle brain.
Brennan wasn't it? Strange decision it must be said, and I am unaware of the precise facts which led to that outcome. Kennedy is no McCoy or Walsh but he is decent enough. The important thing here is loyalty. It appears they have dispensed with his services, after sticking with him, because the horse has disappointed on two occasions, neither time when the jockey was at obvious fault. It smacks of sour groups to me.
On the subject of loyalty, Ruby Walsh, the best there has ever been, has been jocked of Brampour with young Harry Derham keeping the ride at the owners specific request. I hope their loyalty is rewarded. http://betting.betfair.com/horse-ra...e-jockey-changes-in-the-internati-071211.html
Zen, just repeated exactly that on the International Hurdle thread. A top reward for the lad following his fine efforts on this horse so far this term. Doubt if the Ruby boy is that enamoured though as he’s on Santuaire now!
It was Brennan, he told the trainer (or trainers connection at the course who was Milton Harris) that the ground was too soft and he didn't want to ride. He then got a doctor to sign off that he was dehydrated luckily they got a replacement in (Byrne I think - never rode over the fences previously and came off at the 3rd) otherwise they would have had to withdraw the horse. Oddy, its not Kennedy's fault then, its ours
Can Derham claim his 7lbs in any form of race? Or is it just handicaps? I can never remember the rules on this ................
