This will be lost on most of you but When watching Will Keane today did anyone else think they were watching Gregory's Girl ?
Funnily enough that did cross my mind when I saw him interviewed on SSN after he signed. Half Gregory's Girl, half Peter Crouch.
I thought that he was one of our better players today. Did a fine pass to doyle to put him through only to see that clumsy buggar fall over the ball......
Reading are a biggish / brutish side. The Keane / Zamorra subs made sense tactically IF Bobby was able to do what he is paid to do.
I was watching on the interweb, which is always dodgy as my attention wanders, but from what I saw he did alright. Trouble is we now have a a huge number of players (and I suspect a manager) who have no long (or even medium term) stake in the club. I hope they want to do well as individuals for their own careers' sake, but whether we are promoted or not won't make much difference to them.
Yes, Kaspars Gorkss looks like he could be on a Viking raiding party. I thought Keane did okay and one wonders what might have happened in this game if his glancing header had found the net, which it almost did. In fact in that 3 min spell we could have scored 3 goals, and with a 3-1 advantage I think we could have romped home with a big result.
Keane was mostly anonymous, and had no real "chemistry" with Doyle, or anyone else. Zamora was mostly useless. Worst home performance of the season by a country mile (except perhaps the Swindon cup game). Assou-Ekotto to blame for two of the goals. Dunne was "very cross" with him after the third, indicating how he should have tackled instead of backing off. Great shot, though. Things can only get better.
Can't agree that he was "mostly anonymous". He faded a bit in the 2nd half, but 1st half he looked good, with a good first touch. His shot led to the goal, he was unlucky with his header and he played Doyle in cleverly, only for Doyle to trip over himself!! I think he looks a better player than Doyle.
The last time Kaspars scored against us he very respectfully did not celebrate. Next time he scores at LR, if he does, he will celebrate right in front of Q, P and R Blocks. Pity but that's footballing life I guess.
I thought that Doyle & Keene looked as if they did have the early formation of a partnership & neither should have been taken off. Especially as we had no ready substitute on the bench. This was by a country mile our worst home performance of the season? The result may have been but we actually played better than against many sides who we have ground out a win against. Think back to how awful we were when Ipswich, Barnsley, Bolton & Doncaster came to town. Wherever, like you I would much prefer to see Hitchcock, Harriman etc but that ain't ever going to happen with Harold in charge. At least Keene put in effort which didn't apply to other loanees (especially the Bosingwa look-a-like at left back).
