I can´t see how any of the names Being bandied around at this time, Could profess to have greater claims To the job, nor a promise we´d climb Those in work, Pearson and Mackay Have yet to prove their PL worth, Those not, have a good reason why A risk, at this time for our berth I really do hope McNally Despite feeling pressure, I´m sure, Will resist the temptation to free Hughton, and the pain we endure The easy option, just to sack May work, but as often it won´t, So many times, on looking back How many would have said, " No don´t " Wolves, QPR and Black Cats All hoped changes would bring success, But despite the new welcoming mats They´ve not yet proved they´ve fixed the mess I hope too, it won´t stand or fall On this Saturday´s full time score, Whether it´s to be his final call But I fear it will, should we just draw I think he should get to New Year At the very least, to turn this round, And if, by then, we´re still not clear Then a dismissal shouldn´t astound I know a change, so they do say Can be just as good as a rest, But the devil you know every day Can quite often still be the best. OTBC
I'm with you all the way on this RBF, very well put, the last two games to the Mancs have cost us a lot, the cup game we played a few reserves, yet the injuries occurred to our main, first team players, then against Citeh, going 3 down quite quickly caused heads to drop and curtailed any further effort from our boys! Let's hope they can be lifted before Saturday! OTBC
Very well said RBF and on the 'poll' thread a couple of days ago, I voted for CH to be given until Xmas. At least the majority who voted weren't in favour of him being sacked now!!!
JR - I´m afraid I have the old saying ´act in haste, repent at leisure´ very much in my mind at the moment, can certainly see it happening if we´re not careful.
Yes I agree with you RBF although I have to admit that this week has tested my resolve considerably. My consolation has been contemplating the list of potential candidates, many of whom would genuinely frighten the kids at Hallowe'en - Warnock, Mc Leish and Di Canio for example and against that the thougth of Mackay and the possibility that we could repeat the Gunn debacle and we could see another hero go up in flames. I just hope that things turn around now starting with Saturday and that the confidence gained hopefully through a win there will be the launchpad for improvement in the following games which on paper at least look friendlier.
I also think that keeping CH on has the virtue of two chances. One, he turns it around and City move up the table. Two, time is gained to carefully sound out a successor should he fail in the next few weeks. My money is still on the first with RvW, Snods and Redmond coming back. James Nursey's latest article makes a good read on this subject: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/chris-hughtons-spell-delia-smiths-2678888?
Good? I'd personally say it's an absolutely brilliant piece, probably the best I've seen on our current situation Edit: Apart from RBF's poetic version of course
RiverEndRick - thanks for posting the link and I found it one of the most accurate articles I've read on why Hughton should stay. My biggest problem (and it seems most others on 'not606') have the same problem - who is going to replace him and please don't say Malky, Pullis etc!!!!!
McNally acts fast, so Hughton wouldn't be incumbent today if McNally was going to sack him after the Man City result. I expect the two crunch points for Hughton are after the West Ham match, because a change of manager then would allow two weeks to get to know the players, or after the Palace match because if Hughton hasn't turned it around by then I think a majority will be in favour
Well said Rob. I have been impressed with the way both 'inners' and 'outers' have paused to consider the long-term considerations rather than leap to a 'knee-jerk' reaction to a painful result. The next 3 matches will certainly be critical.
