Will Gus stick with that system?

Or was it purely to try and stop the SaS?

Personally I hope in the away games against Spurs Man City and Chelsea he tries it again. I've been wanting us to try wing backs for years and I think had Alonso not been suspended it would have been even more effective; The one problem with it is that I dont think Johnson fits into the system and has to take up the roll of impact sub.

    -----------------------Mannone---------------------------
    -----------Cuellar-----Oshea----------Brown------------
    Bardsley--------------------------------------------Alonso
    --------------Cattermole----Bridcutt----------------------
    ----------------------------Ki--------------------------------
    -------------------Borini------Altidore---------------------

    In the "winnable' home games West Ham, Cardiff, West Brom and Swansea. Id like us to go;

    -------------------------Mannone-----------------------------
    Bardslsy---------Oshea----------Brown-------------Alonso
    Johnson--------------Ki------Cattermole--------Giaccherini
    --------------------------Borini---------------------------------
    -------------------------Altidore--------------------------------

It stands to reason that Dozy should not be in the (any) team cos excluding him means the overall quality of the players on the park is improved. The rest of the players you suggest are fine.

I can see what you`re thinking Parker but I like the idea of this home or away.

    -----------------------Mannone---------------------------
    -----------Cuellar-----Oshea----------Brown------------
    Bardsley--------------------------------------------Alonso
    --------------Cattermole----Bridcutt----------------------
    ----------------------------Ki--------------------------------
    -------------------Borini------Altidore---------------------

Catts and Bricutt both played well and Ki is much more effective further forward.
No place for Colback I see.
    Celutska for Cuellar?
Agree with SP above, no Altidore for me either. The only alternative is Wickham. He hasn`t had the PL game time to make a proper judgment imo. If he`d been on the pitch as much as Jozy who knows what the difference would be? I think he`s worth a run of games. (tin hat on).

I would like Wickham to get a chance from now until the end of the season to find out whether he is premier player or not.
Borini is the main striker without doubt so if Jozy is to play as the second striker we need to alter our system to accommodate him more. It bugs me that Jozy for the USA and Seb for Sweden look tremendous but don't IMO produce it at club level.
I thought last night that Gus had both Jozy & Connor to far apart from each other. I know Giacch was the link man but neither forward got to assist each other.

Actually I have just argued on Syd's forum that neither Carthorse or Dozy should play. Put Johnson and Borini up front they both can play a bit.

Have Clatterhard, Birdcutt, Ki and Colback in midfield and the usual suspects as the back four.

The other problem is we struggle to put out 3 CB that are up to it. Cuellar is better than vergini I think. Bards is poor on the ball so perhaps he could play in back 3 with Celutska RWB.

It was strange last night in that at times it looked like Connor and Jozy were wide players with Giacch then Ki between them. It worked ok but I thought the strikers were always too far apart to link up and we didn't look like scoring til AJ/Ki came on.

    Could we go:
    --------------vito

    ---------Bards JOS Wes

    Celutska -------------- Alonso

    ------------Brid. Catts
    ----------------Ki
    -------AJ------------ Borini

Or do we need Jozy or someone central to hold the ball up? I thought he did that quite well last night. But, If we want our best players on the pitch, I think these are the 11.

i was pleased that for once it looked as though the team followed a plan through as instructed ,if we had this at norwich it could have resulted in a point even if not all played well because they havent got the strike power of liverpool in the first place ,not pretty but every point on the road could prove vital,in fact even at home played the right way could pay off with breaks coming from the full backs and the extra defender covering ,catts and brids looked suited in the role asked to play as well,if ki and aj can play with the same gusto as they did after coming on i think its a deceptive attacking set up .

OK, while we`re bugrin about with formations, would this work?

    ----------------------Mannone
    ---Bardsley---Celutska----O`Shea---Brown----Alonso
    -------------Cattermole--------Bridcutt
    ---------------------------Ki
    -----------------Wickham------Borini

When we signed AJ we were warned by a couple of our friendly Citeh posters that he was an impact player and never performed when he was in the starting lineup. The LFC game bore that out so maybe it is worth bringing him on at the hour mark when defenders are starting to tire.

Also noticed that Gus is using double substitutions so his game plan is maybe defend until half time or just caters for a win after the changeover time.

Seriously? I Truly can't see what you see in Jozy Altidore Parker. 55 PL games, total of 57 shots in those games and 2 goals and 4 assists - 1 assist for us. He doesn;t harry or hassle defenders to put them under pressure to make a mistake, he doesn;t shoot! I truly can't see anything endearing about his play

His point was that if Altidore didn't play the overall quality of our players went up. I was just intrigued as to what he meant.

My whole defense of Altidore is; The abuse and unnecessary criticism he gets has really riled me.
Go on.twitter after any game we've lost and its all ****ing Altidore this ****ing Altidore that. No mention of the players responsible for costing us the game. If he misses a sitter or gives the ball away leading to a goal go nuts with the criticism vent away. But its like people who dont know anything about football "Sunderland lost last night, aye that Altidore's ****e like'
Did you hear about that plane going missing? Aye, shouldn't have let that ****ing Altidore up front"

Secondly, we have two attackers who can score Borini and Johnson and for me Altidore is an asset to them and brings them into play in dangerous areas. When Altidore doesnt play they are stuck on the half way line and cant get into the game.

Fair enough mate - I personally think Altidore is very poor. I think Wickham would do a better job in the same role but he has never been given that opportunity that Altidore has so there is no way of knowing for certain - all pie in the sky. As I said, Altidore's confidence must be shot to **** - I don;t really go on twitter much unless someone tags me or uses one of the hashtags I've set up for my music stuff anmd it comes up on my phone. But I also don;t go on and slate individuals - there are a number that do but I do come on here and give my views. I thought Wickham was much better than Altidore the other night, simply because he harried and pushed the defence when they had the ball. Altidore won a header ion the first half and then stood and admired it instead of busting a gut to make space for the second ball... I can only speak as I find - no-one deserves a barracking in a public environment like that. And that could be one of the reasons Jozy is so bereft of confidence!

Simple maths really, if ten players have positive contribution scores and the eleventh player has a negative contribution score. Take that negative score away and the total positive contribution has increased.

the more i think about it the more i like this formation ,with the two full backs getting forward to support and provide the front two ,if it worked against the dippers it must do on monday ,plus the players looked comfortable.

Think it would suit Alonso but Bardsley can't seem to cross the ball into the box to save his life, never thought I'd think this but could the rwb position be tailor made for a certain pointy Swedish blonde?
