Heard the name on the occasional phone in on 606 or Talksport saying he's the next big thing but really never seen him play or know anything about his style of game.

Nearly scored 20 goals this season, 21 years old and out of contract in the summer. It sounds suspiciously similar to Butterfield joining!

If were to progress, we cant afford to take risks on people like this! We need quality ready to take us forward from the off, is a 21 year old from league one going to do that? doubt it...

It depends. If he's out of contract then we either settle a fee with the club because he's under 24, or it goes to a tribunal. I get the impression, although I don't pretend to know all the details, that a tribunal tends to undervalue players, so in the case of Butterfield, by settling with Barnsley before it got that far, we got a bargain. If Grigg has scored 19 goals in league 1, he's likely to be good enough for the championship at least, so we sign him and loan him out right away.
If he sets the championship alight, his value goes through the roof and we either consider him for our PL squad, or sell him on at a tidy profit. If he struggles, then we sell him back to a league 1 side, and probably still at the very least break even on him, considering we'll have likely paid less than his true value.

To me, it seems like a win-win situation, and something we can do because our status as a 'bigger' club means there's little chance that he'd turn us down in favour of signing a new deal with Walsall. It sounds suitably ruthless for McNasty anyway.

Whatever happens, I don't believe we'll be signing this guy to challenge Van Wolfswinkel, or even Holt/Becchio.

Best will in the world, even if we do survive this season, we won't be in a position to hurl obscene amounts of money around. If there are good, exciting, young players on the scouts radar, get them in. English or foreign, who cares as long as it's right for the football club and all involved parties <ok>
I can't see too many more £8+m 'stellar' signings occurring. I'm quite pleased to say!

Grigg and Redmond, two young, inexperienced forwards with great potential. are we the new Arsenal?

That would depend on whether we're offering Walsall and Birmingham £15m apiece!

No, because we have also signed lots of experienced and proven players too.

The Butterfield situation really annoys me because I genuinely think he has potential but because Hughton doesn't fancy him for some reason he has been marginalised. If we were to buy this guy Grigg and Hughton then was to go then the scenario could be repeated.

I don't understand the Butterfield situation either. In the first half of last season, he's Barnsley's captain, and apparently on fire. He gets a bad injury, and comes to us on the cheap as he's out of contract. I can see the logic in loaning him out to get fit again, as he's lost a lot of time, but when he's gone on loan he hasn't played much because he doesn't fit the teams system - so why bother?

I think we'd almost have been better playing the U21's in a system that does fit him, and let him dominate those games for the first half of the year.

I really hope he figures in Hughton's plans, but the talk of bringing in another attacking midfielder would indicate not.

Nathan Redmond would be a great signing. Future England wingers with good final product. Pretty sure he's had a fair few assists this year. Quick as lightening he is. I think he would cost a bomb in normal circumstances but with Birminghams financial problems, could be on the cheap. Don't know much about Will Grigg to be honest but not bad goalscoring record.

Villa are reportedly interested in Grigg now. I see that Paul Ince reckons if Zaha went for £15m, then his son is worth £25m. well, he must be playing fantasy football.

I think Tom Ince is a good player, but £25m? His Dad is having a laugh. He will probably need to play Premier League football in the next two years and his Dad is pricing him out of a move.
