Surely now no-one can disagree that once Richardson came on and Clyne went to the left something happened!!!
I hope so, although so one will probably come on here and argue that his set pieces mean he should play... (which is of course bollocks)
Use to like Fox, but he is ****. Need a Lb or Rb in jan, Clyne looked much better playing on the left imo.
He has been terrible all season, and wasn't great in the championship. We have to seriously consider dropping him for good. Clyne was great on the left (which suprised me tbh!)
I don't think Richardson exactly made the difference, but as I said on another thread, he's got to be pushing Fox hard for a first team spot.
We have the cup game on Tuesday which Shaw will probably start (who on the right? I don't know). Then Nigel will have all his options for Saturday. I said this after the Utd game to be fair but I don't really know who you change from the second half squad.
Yeah, think you have to start the second half team for now. First half, 0-1 second half 4-0 sort of says something. And Fox has been shaky the entire season. Could see dropping Puncheon and/or Gazzaniga, that's about it. Not saying I would, just that I could see the reasoning behind doing so and it wouldn't bother me if it happened.
Richardson did make the difference. Him being on meant that Fox wasn't there. that in itself means he made a difference. Fox not being at LB meant we had someone else there who could defend and Richardson gave the same on the right. Fox not being there meant that the ball didn't continually go over Lallana's head Fox not being there meant that Clyne who is very attacking wasn't running into the same space that Puncheon likes to occupy. Different to on the left with Lallana who has more of a free role. So in effect Fox not being on the pitch meant that Puncheon, Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, and Lallana had better games too. No brainer for me: First choice from now should be Clyne on the left with Richardson on the right. 3rd choice Shaw and 4rd choice Fox/loanee
people are being pretty harsh on fox, though I would be tempted to start richardson and clyne against everton
The deciding factor was Fox going off though. Clyne going to LB and Richardson playing RB as far as I'm concerned was much much better in both defence and attack. Clyne way more effective on the attack in the second half as he had more space to run into. Richardson was wise enough to stay back and cover when Clyne went forward something Fox refused to do in the first half. Richardson had 15% better passing completion on top of that.
. Fox was shocking today, agreed, but how can a left back ruin the balance of a team? Crazy statement at the end. His passing was appalling today but part of me thought he had no-one in front of him to pass it to forcing him to play it long. Unfortunately for him those long passes ended up in the crowd. Reminded me of Franny that last bit.
Fox made a mistake with the goal (which was crap all round), but like Jos I'm not completely writing him off yet. Nigel made a brave move and he got it spot on yet again.
Why do people keep defending Fox with the 'no-one to pass to' line. How did Clyne manage it then? Quite simply Richardson's style and Clyne's style fit better with Puncheon and Lallana. Clyne and Puncheon try to attack the same space. And I don't buy the 'no-one to pass to' Fox hoofs it over the top of Lallana or anyone else. Doesn't often look for a pass. Clyne had no such problem and linked up well with Lallana.
