I know it was never going to happen and surely the club did but can anyone give me a good reason why the hell De Fanti approached Napoli or Cavani's agent about coming to us Has Ellis had enough of relegation fights and mediocre football and will spend to get us well up the table this summer providing we stay up? If so I would imagine the naming rights to both academy and ground would be sold to keep us within the fair play rules
I can see all of the above, de fanti will have agents sniffing about all over the place, i think it might be time to flex his muscles now the infrastructure is in place
The Cavani thing was just a jive I believe, and even if Ellis was to go mad, he wouldn't be going Cavani mad, as in £40million on one player mad. I think we'll spend a fair whack mind, strikes me MON's failure genuinely annoyed Ellis and he may go for a 'let's have a real ****ing punt' kinda summer. We can but hope.
Mig, O'Shea, Colback (good cover for full back positions), N'Diaye, Johnson, Sessegnon, Fletcher and Wickham do what we can to keep these guys, as for the rest if a decent offer comes in we should be looking to move them on in a flash including our cpt.
obv. providing we stay up (don't want to tempt fate) then we have the benefit of the new TV money which would probably allow us to spend around 50m after the last two clowns and the money they have spent if Ellis does not want anymore relagation battles then we need to spend around 50m at least to get enough quality into our wafer thin squad up to a good standard.
Nail on the head mate.. Offers, just how much is any of the worth? Mig is about the only profitable one, and we need to keep him.
would not sell Mig for any money same with Sess as for the ones we should move on then probably get 4 or 5m tops for McClean and Larsson and then the rest would be less than that I would think
What surprises me is just how thin and lacking in quality our squad is, especially after the money we have spent. This is why I believe Ellis decided to take control and have a major shake up as in all honesty we were looking like mugs who would pay big bucks for average players whilst so called small clubs could out play and out preform us in the league. The infrastructure/set up wasn't producing good enough results so a drastic change was needed.
Sad fact, for all the money spent, there is not a lot of resale value. Only profitable one's would be Mig, Colback and McClean. and with the exception of Mig, it ain;t a lot of money in football terms.
I really fail to see where this "lot of money" comes into play. Keane spent 80 million with Drumaville Bruce spent 10 million and it may not have even been that much with Short and 2.5 seasons MON spent 30 million in 1.5 seasons our turnover before invest in africa and adidas was 55 million a year, with invest in africa and adidas it has to be close to 100 million a year. we spent 40 million under short, in 4 seasons we have made 200 million say over the same period, and that is being very conservative. all i can say is i hope short still doesnt want his 125 million loan back still.
But Steve, you are talking club turnover, let's look at the present squad, and where is the profits within it? Mig for sure...
Cant help feeling we are his biggest venture now, totally under his skin, if i were to hedge my bets i would say he was about to go for it big style
The players I would keep sign from the current squad: Migg, Westwood, Rose, Colback, Ndaiye, Johnson, Sess, Fletcher. That's about it I can't think of anyone else I am that bothered about. Maybe keep Wickham as he is young but he has not exactly done it yet. I am 50/50 on Gardner too he has had some good games for us but has also gone missing, if a good bid came in he could go for me. I would be happy to sell anyone not listed above.
Danny Collins Dean Whitehead Grant Leadbitter Paul McShane M Chopra Greg Halford Bruce got over 16 million for those when he sold them. We got in 5 loan players, even SNQ said after the season they had short changed Bruce with all the loan deals, so they would do better next year. What happened the year after. Sold Henderson for 16 million, Still had cash coming in from the Bent sale, Gyan sale and I believe K Jones sale as well, Bruce brought in 11 players, for 16 million, but to get 11 players at that price he HAD to get them from relegated teams and free transfers. MON comes in Short goes oh here is 30 million to spend, he spends it on 3-4 players gets about 4 million back (which is his reportoir btw) and yet Bruce was the one that spent the fortune??? Dont get me wrong Bruce was not perfect, but to lay all the blame at his feet is just bloody wrong imho esp as we had a Billionaire owner before this FFP kicked in, and he didnt say **** it and spend a fortune then when he could, but people expect him to do it now with FFP, I cant get my head around why he would, we will spend well within our means, but Short isnt going to splash 100 million of his own cash into us on transfers. tbf to short, he probably didnt have a clue what he was getting himself into at the time, maybe he didnt trust bruce with millions but then why appoint him in the first place?.
agree with everything in bold, the rest is about mitigating risk, as shrewd as he is showing us he is by his recent decisions the timing has to be right in business, i feel the time is right, hope it is, good post btw
Great post. Bruce did well in the transfer market, it all went wrong when our strike force of Bent, Gyan and Welbeck all went. He was building a very good side. Imagine: Migg Onouha JOS Mensha Rose Sess Catts Henderson Welbeck Bent Gyan Not a bad side at all
ok bit harsh on bruce, he shifted a lot of Roy Keane rubbish too but his quality of signings weren't much better. And out of the good ones he made (bent, cana ect) he only managed keep hold of sess and mig. Plus Henderson was a sale from the accademy which makes bruces spending look a lot worse without.
