Will Adebayor leave or will he stay and improve his game?

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Aug 1, 2013.

  1. Let me start this debate off by declaring, right from the off, that I would love nothing more than for Ade to buck his ideas up and put in the kind of performance he put in against Chelsea in every match. He and Soldado up front together could be truly awesome for us, with the pace and clinical finishing of Defoe to come on and terrorize defenses late on in games. However, I cannot count the times I have despaired at how easily Ade seems to get frozen out of games, and the apparent lack of effort he seems to exert in most games.

I would love nothing more than for our signing of Soldado to spur Ade on to new levels, and to encourage him to put in the effort that will enable his undoubted talents to shine. However, I fear that that will simply not happen. On balance, I'd be in favour of us selling Ade and getting in a young, hungry striker to learn off Soldado, over the next three or four seasons.

    What do you guys think?

I expect he'll leave, he won't like battling with Defoe to get starts in the Europa League and League Cup.

Just get rid of him, he took mickey out of the club last season, turning up in certain big games and all of a sudden decided agaisnt chelsea away he would start performing, we don't need players that only decide to perform in big games to show their ego/talent.

I was all for signing him at first, as he was superb under redknapp and 5 million seemed a no brainer but i would prefer we moved him on, and no doubt he will have a fantastic season for his new club.

    I agree with YV.

Also, we'll want to free the wages up IMO.

He's been linked with a move to Besiktas but they can't finalise any deal until late in the day, as they don't know what their finances are going to be like.
They're facing another European ban for match fixing.

Can't foresee any change in his attitude regardless. I think he's one of football's mercenaries and frankly, the sooner he goes the better. A young hungry striker is exactly what our squad needs now with a senior and somewhat ageing strike force at present. Someone with pace too.

  7. Trust us to get a lazy mercenary!

Why couldn't we, at least, have got ourselves a hard-working mercenary, like Anelka?

Without injury and without the ACON he might be better this year. He's not actually thrown his toys yet.
In other threads people bemoan the lack of rotation, lack of game changers from the bench, lack of opposition fear looking at the bench.
Well an in form ade (or soldado/Defoe depending on rotation) coming into the side or off the bench would certainly make most sit up and take notice

Ade won't like not being the main man though. We saw his little childish ways last season when he hi-5'd benny after running all the way to the bench to do it, to make a point.
On the other hand, Defoe will always give his all and has always shown an excellent attitude, even when he's been benched for long spells.

I think the club know this, which is why he's likely to be sold.

I think he's worth a punt on giving him another season. On his day he is quality and there is no one else we could sign now who would be better.
I'm all for signing a young up and coming player but we need more experience than just Soldado and Defoe so I think he's a risk worth taking.

And yet, the only game he happened to turn up in was against us <doh>

Sell him and buy Loic Remy (rape charges will get cleared). You'd get £8m for Adebayor and you could probably buy Remy for £11m.

Soldado, Remy and Defoe would be a very decent frontline.

with how the market is looking in terms of remaining options/prices/wages etc, I agree. I think Remy is one of very few realistic possibilities left. I bet his wages'd be cheaper an'all.

I'm an Ade fan, but think it's very unlikely he'll still be with us at the end of the transfer window. I don't think we'll get much for him, either, because of his huge salary--but that's why he's likely to go.

I hope he stays, though. The chances he'll have a big year I think are pretty good. He might work well with Soldado, if they're ever on the field together.

Has Remy actually been charged? I know that he was arrested but I can't seem to find any reference to him being charged.

Said that on another thread. Don't believe the myth of "Spurs will have £87m to spend on quality players and get even stronger".

When we lost Robben, an entire dimension of our game went and we had to powering our way through the middle. When United lost Ronaldo they went from Cert CL favourites/finalists to Europa League and Last 16 fodder.

You can't really put a price on players like Bale, don't come around often and they help bring other players to the club. If Madrid want him they'll get him eventually but you should make them wait a year.
