ANDY Wilkinson says he would love to spend the rest of his career at Stoke as he stands on the brink of his 100th start for the club.

The home-grown right-back could complete his century when Stoke begin their Europa League campaign on July 28.

However, the 26-year-old from Yarnfield, who reported back for pre-season training with the rest of the Stoke squad today, is taking nothing for granted as he concentrates on trying to earn a place in the side.

He said: "It is up to the manager if I play, but it would be nice if I could get that next game. It would be a good milestone before trying to get another 100.

"In fact, I would love to play every game for Stoke until I can't play any more.

"That is up to the powers that be, but I would love to be here forever."

Wilkinson, who yesterday opened a new library and community facilities at Tittensor First School, has no doubt about his favourite game as a Stoke player so far.

He said: "The best game was the 5-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Bolton at Wembley last season.

"The final was the bigger game, but to beat Bolton like we did was amazing.

"Also the atmosphere was fantastic, right from when our bus pulled up at the stadium to be greeted by Stoke fans all over the place with an amazing roar of support.

"The hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I'll never forget that moment for the rest of my life."

Wilkinson, who has three years to run on his Stoke contract, has been praised by City boss Tony Pulis.

He said: "Wilko has done exceptionally well and he is a great lad.

"He epitomises what the squad and this club is all about. "Whether he is training or playing, he always gives 100 per cent. He is a credit to himself.

"We never have a problem with him.

"Even when he's not in the team, he just comes back and works hard to get back in.

"That excellent attitude, spirit and commitment throughout the club is what has got us where we are."

Wilkinson has played alongside 98 different Stoke players since making his debut for the club as a substitute at Blackpool in the LDV Vans Trophy 10 years ago.

His team-mates since then include star names such as Peter Hoekstra ... and less celebrated figures such as Junior and Peter Kopteff.

Wilkinson could bring up a century of team-mates by September as City attempt to bring in new faces before the August 31 transfer deadline.

They are hoping to complete a deal for Birmingham duo Scott Dann and Cameron Jerome, and are also keen on West Ham's Carlton Cole.

Pulis is also though to be interested in Manchester City's Craig Bellamy, having tried to sign him on loan last summer.
