Fresh off a barnstorming run behind Cape Blanco in the Arlington Millions, where he was a most unlucky fourth, due to an average ride by Haley Turner, Wigmore Hall makes his debut today in Canada. The Northern Dancer Turf Stakes over 14f at 21:34, sees the Spencer ridden, Bell trained son of High Chaparral take on the locals for the best part of the $500,000 purse. Given an easy time of it breezing, he comes into the race as the 9-5 favourite ahead of the US visitor Bourbon Bay, a beaten favourite last time out at Delmar.

I'm not too sure about the local hopes, but Patrick Husbands, who normally rides for the powerful Casse stable, isn't on either of the two stable runners Hailstone or Seaside Retreat. He takes the sit on Simmard, posted at about double each way odds. Champion Rider Luis Contreras hops onto the Casse horse Seaside Retreat, which at the moment is a couple of points longer on the books. Both Simmard and Seaside Retreat have won on the track. But are either of them up to Arlington Millions standard? The bookies say no, but as I'm a Contreras fan, I selecting Seaside Retreat who breezed 1.01.0 over 5f on this course 10 days ago.

Wigmore Hall was asked to do nothing a week ago at Arlington, where he went a leisurely 54.8 for the half mile. As he was extremely unlucky in not being placed in the Million, he should shake the life out of this ... if he handles the track.

    Seaside Retreat. EW.

Woodbourne. Place. $1,000,000, G1 Woodbine Mile Stakes.

Northern Dancer turf. Cannot make up my mind between Bourbon Bay and Al Khali so a $2 win,$ 2 place on both and a $2 exactor box.

Woodbine mile Grand adventure with Husbands on board should go well in this open race M/L of 8/1 ,with some euro imports running ,definately a good betting race Side Glance has a definate chance but not using lasix is a bit confusing, but they must think he has a good chance bringing him over from the UK.
Grand Adventure $2 across the board.

Best of luck mate. If Wigmore Hall runs up to the Arlington effort, he should win, it's a big if though. He's not real value.

How can Wigmore Hall pay $4.90? Amazing! When I posted the article he was a 9-5 chance. I thought he's maybe drop into odds on, but he pays nearly 4-1. I hope you had some of it mate. As for Patrick Husbands, it looks as though I couldn't see the forest for the trees. I thought he'd been sacked for Contreras on Seaside Retreat, but not riding for Casse merely meant that on this occasion, he had a better ride. Simmard payed $5.50. Too smart for my own good. <laugh>

The $1,000,000, Canadian trot wasn't a great race but a mom and pop operation won it (daylon Magician)
The game Plan won the $469,000 2yr open trot. and Win Missy b won the $447,000 2yr fillies trot.

It's always nice when the "little people" make it to the top mate.
