Whilst watching the FA Cup they said Wigan had the second best form in the Championship. Now that is a major worry. That said Crystal Palace had an awful run in at the end of last season but managed to win the Play Offs. Sounds like us at the moment, well I can hope.
They won again tonight, so now 5 points behind us, with another game in hand, and we are still to play them.
9 times out of 10 its the Wigan type team on a run that wins the playoffs and the team that drops from the top 2 doesn't have a chance. Palace was the exception and can you see our lot upping their game when it really matters?
Burnley drawing makes last nights result feel even worst. A win and we would have been 7 points behind Burnley and had we won our game in hand only 4 points behind.
All if's north, let's face it we're not good enough, charlton game was the crunch game, go one further Leicester at home changed the season & there luck.
Standing back a little can give you a different perspective. If we had started our season with the results we have achieved in our last ten games we would have been in or close to the relegation zone at that time. Factor in the rest of the games we have played this season and see what happens? We have shot up to fourth in the league and if we win our game in hand we will be third outright. Many of us felt that we would not be in contention this season and some even feared relegation. It hasn't been pretty but we are still firmly in the playoff position. If our current form persists we will drop out of contention but our chances of being in the top six come season's end are still very good.
An interesting perspective, but it's what has happen in the previous six games and what happens in the next six games that matters. If our form had been reversed we would be after Burnley, but, alas we are hanging on for the top six. Hopefully, we can change our form again, NOW!
Wigan and Reading were always going to be in the mix as I said months back I don't fear any team in this league as our football is by far the best I share many posters fears about scoring however and that is a big and current problem Wigan still have tough games to play
I understand what you are saying Grinners, but those who felt we would not be in contention are just as disappointed as the rest of us with not only recent form but the dire football they have seen this year. I had no idea where we would finish, but I knew that with a manager on £3m a year and multiple players on £40k+ a week, anything other than promotion had to be seen as a failure.
If you look at their fixtures no matter what they're going to have a major influence on the table & play-offs in particular.
Still running the busiest board on not606 I see! Still an awful lot of games to play - and the play-offs are a bit of a lottery anyway. We've had a couple of injuries - Watson will be missed, but Chris McCann has become a really big player for us (this is the guy who tried to run off a fractured kneecap against City at the weekend) and his absence will be keenly felt. Avoiding more injuries will be crucial. That said, we have players coming back from injury like Caldwell, Ramis, Powell, at just the right time. Plus, we had a guy playing in our development squad yesterday who hasn't played for six months - you'll remember him, Shaun Maloney? Massive, massive player for Wigan and his presence in the last couple months of the season - fingers crossed - will lift everyone. I suspect we'll see each other in the play offs, at one time or another.
We've got nothing else to do mate. Hardly like we're going to sit down and watch re-runs of recent performances now is it ? good luck.
I've been banging on about Wigan for weeks now, they're suddenly right up behind us now and I fear we're going the other way. For all Harry's tosh we're not a team and are totally toothless. Even if we make the play-offs we'll not beat Derby or Wigan over two legs, does anyone on here seriously think we will?...
I think based on Derby's current form, we would have a reasonable chance if we were drawn against them in the playoffs. Their earlier goal scoring binge has dried up, they have not scored in the last 3 matches, before that three 1-0 wins (including us), so only 3 goals in 6 games, almost as if Steve McClaren is following Harry's play-book, but they have still managed 10/18 points in these 6 games. Derby 0-0 Bolton Derby 0-1 Millwall Burnley 2-0 Derby Derby 1-0 Bournemouth Sheff Wed 0-1 Derby Derby 1-0 QPR
