Wow, the form team in the moment! If they didn't leave it so late every season to escape relegation who knows where they'd be (One wonders if next season they will finally say goodbye to perennial relegation battlers and hello to established mid-table club). They've beaten Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal (Two of those away from home!) and should of beat Chelsea away too but for refereeing decisions! Why am I posting about Wigan on Norwich board? For all the fickle ***** who booed when we drew 1 - 1 with them!
Was saying exactly the same thing to my Dad yesterday. Starts to make the draw look a good result. They are not at all a bad side and have played good football most of the season but lacked a bit of quality in the final third but rarely have they been completely out played. After all they are an established premier league side. Some how they seem to provide a miraculous escape from relegation every season
The people who booed after the Wigan game are the same people who got no pleasure out of watching Man City on Saturday. If we don't win it is a disaster - football is not a game or an entertainment it is tribalism where only winning matters. Wigan are the sort of Club we have to imitate - survive on limited resources as long as possible in the hope of building for the future and eventually getting the odd season where you creep into the top half. They face the same major problem as us - it could all fall apart when the current Manager moves on!!
On the up side of Wigan hitting form its another huge step that QPR have to make to get out of the ****! All most 3 from 4 now
I thought Wigan were excellent against us, particularly in the second half and we were lucky to get anything out of that game. Their upturn in fortunes doesn't surprise me as I thought on that day they were too good to go down, not quite sure I'd have predicted them to beat Liverpool, Arsenal, United and get robbed by a dodgy linesman against Chelsea though! This little run they're going on is another reason why for me the Premiership is by far the most entertaining league in the world, it just wouldn't happen in La Liga.
Spot on observations, I really thought they could have scored 4/5 against us. Other posts mention the booing after that game, I didn't hear it myself but walking back to the car I heard quite a few people moaning about the result, and some saying if we're going to play like that then I'm not coming again! What we witnessed at that game was the beginning of Wigans revival, and I'm chuffed for them. If you really want to give them a bit extra support visit their Forum, they don't get many threads or posts in fact it's very very quiet, I'm sure they would appriciate some positive feedback. Spot on point about not getting this in La Liga. The whole Prem vs La Liga argument is a good debate, thing is it's difficult to really put your finger on what it is that makes the Prem better, it's just more special. La Liga arguably has the 5 best players in the world but with Prem you just can't ever bank on getting three points against certain teams. Back to Wigan, I hope they stay up more than any of the other teams, Martinez is a great manager who has a difficult job knowing it's only a matter of time that he will lose his best players. If Rodallega was more consistent I am sure they would have a decent mid-table outfit. I think James McCarthy is a brilliant player, would like him in the old green and yellow.
It just goes to show how unpredictable football is. Let's face it, Wigan were gone a couple of months ago and looked in a terrible place. As has been said their draw at CR was the start and if they had beaten WBA at home the game after (when they murdered them really) they would be 2 more points clear and breathing easier still. The old adage that there are no easy games holds true and we should always remember that - PL certainly does.
without wishing to appear too smug, i predicted wigan would stay up when they were bottom of the table sod it... <smug>
