Aged 32, and a bit electronica fan from yesteryear, it saddens me I never went to Wigan Pier for one of their hardcore evenings. Never been to Wigan full stop thinking about it.... After Stoke, we're now in some serious need of first aid. We slip to eight points off safety, nine if you count goal difference. If you look at form, their is some comfort. None of the bottom 5 have won a game in their last 5, infact if you count Sheffield Wednesday and Hull's solitary win, the bottom 8 have amassed a collective 2 wins in 40. Pathetic! All around pathetic. Wigan apparently ( not looked this up ) have an EVEN WORSE away record than us this season - however we're all aware we're yet to win at home......... or keep a clean sheet v 11 men all season......... I'm however, going to say good things happen like buses - wait for one and 2 come at once. I think we'll win, AND keep a clean sheet. Perhaps I need to be sectioned under the mental health act, however this is an opportunity. 2-0 Town. Gerken Spence / Pennington / Chambers / Knudsen ( not sure how I've predicted clean sheet........... Chalobah / Downes Lankaster / Bishop / Sears Harrison - think he might get the nod for this. Hull v Brentford, Rotherham Reading happening. IF we lose, and there's 2 wins in them fixtures, we're BANG in trouble. C O Y B.
We have to win the occasional game more by luck than judgement, this could be one of them. But I doubt it. Wigan, just like everybody else, will fancy it.
We'll huff and we'll puff, but ultimately we'll falter at the last hurdle(yet again!) 1-1 with Wigan equalising in the 7th minute of stoppage time after a freak accident to Gherks!
The atmosphere is so intense that the police have to use tear gas and the game is postponed and ends up being played in Madrid.
A bit disappointed as I thought this was going to be a book review of the Road to Wigan Pier, however like everything else this season a massive let down, thanks Westy !
Count yourself one of the lucky ones This (on paper) looks like a very favorable fixture at exactly the right time as Lambert (and the players) need a win... Desperately. The issue is. We cannot go through 90 minutes without gifting a few good chances and Wigan will undoubtedly score at least 1 of those.. Therefore we need to somehow summon super human powers of not only registering multiple shots on target, but actually convert at least 2 of them into goals.. Strangers things have happened.. But not sure I see us getting much more than another 1-1 draw and more feelings of what could have been
Just had a quick butchers at their squad.... I cannot believe they had Gary Roberts staring on Saturday. Also in their squad is Alex Bruce.... I thought they had a better squad than they do, so on that basis, i'm quietly confident we'll finally get our win. Won't be pretty, but i reckon a comfortable 3-1 win...
Think he meant Wigan Casino. You wouldn’t get ten people on the pier! Then again that shut before the age of hardcore electronica... I’m unfortunate enough to have done a few of the Wigan clubs and it almost as bad as watching Town!
I gotta say, i'm a bit bit gutted i wasn't quite old enough to do the Wigan casino, as i do love my Northern Soul...although i'm not sure if the hype over them was inflated somewhat.
Not sure what the options are sadly - while I agree with you it's toilet - what do we do? Knudsen > Kenlock Nsiala isn't good enough at CB. Donacien - I'm of the opinion ( perhaps wrongly ) the club are purposefully not playing him a minute in the first team so the deal collapses. Just a hunch.
I was thinking the same thing...i wonder what our options are in sending him back and cancelling the deal (bit naughty if we do, but unfortunately needs must)
If this is true, I would still rather Emmanuel at rb rather than Spence & Wolfenden at cb rather than chambers provided that they are available (not sure if loans have a recall clause)
This is the latest opportunity to register 3 points. I look back on the Reading game and fear it will pass us by. however I'm ever the optimist. 2-1 win. Sears with both our goals in the first half, Wigan will get theirs in the second and the final whistle will come as a blessed relief for us.
Loving the optimism on here, lose this and we might be looking at notching a lower points total than Rotherham, who went down with just 23 points! I'll opt for a fairly scrappy 2-0 win, Wigan to have a man sent off.
If it is true he will presumably have to return to St Lucia and it will be another stain on the club. We never would have stooped so low in the past, what goes around comes around. I think it probably is true.
