More like 11 games to pick up 11 points. 50 should be enough to survive. But i doubt we will pick up any of them against our next four opponents.
I'm not one of those who jumped on Steve Gallen and ranted about how rubbish he was before it was warranted. But I can no longer avoid the conclusion that Charlton's recruitment since TS took over has not been good enough - even taking into account the trauma of the take-over itself, the severe damage done to CAFC that needs time to put right, and the huge trauma of the pandemic. It is looking very much now like Charlton will limp to the end of this season and finish maybe 15th to 18th, just a few points above the relegation zone. That is nowhere near good enough, and it will probably cost Johnnie Jackson his job and end his wonderful years at the Club in a very sad way. If Jacko has to walk, very serious questions have to be asked of Steve Gallen. Not the squeaking of hyper-active hate mongers. Proper concerns of reasonable Charlton fans who have given the benefit of the doubt for a long time, but can only tolerate so much mediocrity and fragility in our squad.
Not just player recruitment that should come under scrutiny. Ged Roddy was a mistake, Nigel Adkins was a mistake, now Martin Sandgaard is in charge of recruitment, Gallen negotiates the contracts. There's the pointless row about Women/Ladies waiting to erupt again when the change becomes official, and still no CEO in place. TS could have had Peter Varney, that would have been ideal IMO. I haven't read any of the Sandgaard ahrt stuff, so these are simply my own observations. I didn't expect to go back to the situation of having too many loanees, but we have. The latest two, John and Castillo, don't seem to be ready, I don't know on what basis they were signed. Then there's the farcical attendance figures due to the number of free tickets which are unused but still included. The club seems too messy behind the scenes, needs a proper CEO who understands the English game.
Like Bolton in midweek, I really wasn't expecting much from today. We started very well, and took a well deserved lead with a beautiful goal, and then hit the crossbar. But some awful defending on the left lead to a daft penalty and they were back in it. Half time was a well deserved level pegging, but the worry was Wigan could step up a gear and they did, and we then produced another mix up at the back lead to a winner - game over. I tought all the penalty appeals were penalties - the first one that Purrington nearly gave away - it might have been on the edge of the box but it was a stupid challenge, the one the ref gave, our one for the shirt pull on Inniss and one in the second half where we clattered their attacker. But the result flattered us a litte. We got overrun by a promotion contender. So time to reflect. Curbs called it well on CAFC TV after the game, Now we need to plan tfor next season. We seem to have money to spend (notwithstanding the weirdos who keep saying he's potless. So we could still be an attractive proposition for decent players at this level. We have Fraser, Stockley, Aneke, Dobson all on contract. The problem is who to clear out. A lot of players have looked good on occasions. The problem is we need much more consistency to go up. And really, as Bowyer had, some decent loans like those who took us up last time. We had a lot of players out yesterday - getting beaten was always on the cards, and I don't see why so many fans are going haywire about another loss as if this was a bolt from a clear blue sky. Thank god a lot of these people are just sat on the terraces as we would be clearing out the entire squad every transfer window. But if JJ is the manager next season, we need to let him sit down with Gallen to get out targets sorted out and start tapping them up. JJ said yesterdayhe wants a pre season with his squad, and he should be given it. Now is the time to start-
