    Wigan Athletic v Swansea City

    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - DW Stadium
    Date - 2 November 2019
    Kick off - 12.30pm

Following their thoroughly deserved victory in the South Wales derby, next up for Steve Cooper’s Swansea squad is an away trip to play Wigan.

Against the Bluebirds, the Swans earned the bragging rights in south Wales with a deserved 1-0 victory over a Cardiff City side that was made to look second best in every department.

Ben Wilmot was the hero in his first league start for Swansea, heading home from a cleverly worked short corner on 27 minutes.

The inclusion of ‘old stagers’ Wayne Routledge and Nathan Dyer certainly paid off for Steve Cooper as both played important roles in the victory, with Routledge’s pinpoint cross finding Wilmot for the winner.

Chances for the visitors were few and far between at Liberty Stadium, and if truth be known, the scoreline flattered the visitors - although, as usual, Neil Warnock saw a different game to the fans, media and the watching TV audience ..... <doh>

As a result of the victory, the Swans climbed to to fourth in the Championship, with Cardiff 14th and seven points behind their arch rivals.

Also on Sunday, Wigan earned a creditable point at Ashton Gate, but it could have been better as Bristol City struck a dramatic late goal with Pedro Pereira denying Wigan a first away win of the season.

Pereira, on loan from Benfica, headed Niclas Eliasson's near-post corner beyond David Marshall to rescue a point for the otherwise lacklustre Robins.

The hosts, who would have moved up to second in the Championship with victory, had earlier gone in front when Andreas Weimann diverted Tommy Rowe's scuffed shot into the bottom corner.

Their lead lasted just five minutes before Chey Dunkley smashed into the roof of the net to deservedly pull the visitors level a minute from half-time.

Dunkley completed the turnaround early in the second half, heading Joe Williams' corner past Daniel Bentley, only for Pereira to score his first Bristol City goal with four minutes left.

As a consequence of the draw, Bristol City remain sixth in the table, three points off leaders West Bromwich Albion, while the Latics are 18th, three points from the relegation places.

Swansea and Wigan have played each other on 25 occasions previously, and honours are even, with 10 wins apiece and 5 draws.

In the corresponding fixture last season, the teams played out a 0-0 in front of the Sky Sports cameras, and I would not be surprised if the outcome this Saturday was also a draw.

Hopefully, however, the victory over Cardiff means that the Swans are over their ‘blip’ and that they can kick on and maintain their promotion challenge. I’m hoping for a 2-1 victory, but expecting a 1-1 draw.<cheers>

They've been picking up points recently and as we've seen no team is unbeatble or beatable dependant on their league position , hope for a win but happy with a score draw

    Now for the big game:

Swansea City head coach Steve Cooper has named an unchanged line-up to face Wigan Athletic this afternoon (12.30pm).

Having seen his side secure South Wales derby victory against Cardiff last weekend, the Swans boss has gone with the same line-up for the clash with the Latics.

That means Freddie Woodman starts in goal, with a back four of Kyle Naughton, Mike van der Hoorn, Ben Wilmot and Jake Bidwell ahead of him.

George Byers and captain Matt Grimes are paired up in midfield, with Nathan Dyer, Bersant Celina and Wayne Routledge operating ahead of them.

Andre Ayew continues to lead the line for the Swans.

Swansea City: Freddie Woodman; Kyle Naughton, Mike van der Hoorn, Ben Wilmot, Jake Bidwell; George Byers, Matt Grimes (captain); Nathan Dyer, Bersant Celina, Wayne Routledge; Andre Ayew

Subs: Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Connor Roberts, Ben Cabango, Jay Fulton, Kristoffer Peterson, Sam Surridge, Borja Baston.

Goals in that line up and to be fair prior to the Brentford game we looked pretty solid so hopefully that result was a blip defensively wise
