Off to the Estadio del Pie to play the team from the rugby town on Saturday, apparently this is our cup final which given the irony that the Latics are 13 places below us is a bit laughable.
Having bought the entire surplus of transferred footballers in the transfer window the Latics have had a bit of a resurgence, they are now above the Plastics from Deadwood after a surprise win at "big" club Wolves on Tuesday night with an 88th minute goal from Buxton.
Before the window Latics had the lowest number of goals in the Championship however they have scored five in their last three which does suggest a change of emphesis to actually putting the ball in the net as to over the bar as they do when egg chasing.
In amongst the signings was Omar Bogle from Grimsby who has netted twice since arriving mind you it was Norwich he scored against, does not take much to score against the Canaries.
They have lost keeper Haugaard who was injured at Craven Cottage his replacement is Matt Gilks who once performed in goal for them from Bloomfield.
Up front there is Will Grigg who apparently is on fire although he's not found the net since 27/9/2016 interestingly they had ex United Gabriel Obertan as a substitute on Tuesday hardly played since he left United but maybe has something to prove.
Won't be easy against Latics, squad wise suspect little or no tinkering from the last two wins, Gally may come back but Welsh and Woods won't, Pringle seems to have disappeared from view and no doubt will disappear from the club in summer.
4733 away sell out be nice to give the Pies a decent gate for once.

Well this was a bit crap, the statistics stated there were four shts on target we had three of them and two came from a missed penalty and missed follow up.
Given the apparent game being labelled as a cup final many Wigan fans came in fancy dress as empty plastic seats, maybe those that were not there had the better afternoon.
Typical derby game whole hearted but low quality football, North End had the opportunity to take the lead after 10 minutes when Robinson was brought down by Bogle, having only had one penalty all season and with both regular penalty takers not playing up stepped Hugill hit the kick to the keeper's left easy save the rebound he put to Gilks right but credit to the keeper thought that was a really decent save.
The miss gave Wigan a lift and they were probably just the better side in the first half with Bogle giving us a few problems, he has something about him however he seems very raw and probably will take time to adjust to the Championship. Wigan got into good positions but their final ball was woeful, ours wasn't much better. Bogle claimed a penalty ner half time not given as the first half petered out.
The low light of the interval break was the inability of a North Ender to keep the thirty pints of ale he had had within the confines of his stomach, luckily didn't get splattered.
North End started the second half brightly looked more likely to score, but after the initial flurry the game became ale house ****e, only a Tunnicliffe shot for the home side raised any hopes of entertainment although late on Bogle was denied by a good tackle by Cunningham when the forward was well placed to score.
#Very frustrating afternoon but seven points out of nine in a week cannot complain at that. Stood behind North End'd defender Greg Cunningham's dad, he texted someone at half time the first two words of the text read, "****e game" he was right.

Wigan Athletic 0 Preston North End 0 Att 15117

    Wigan manager Warren Joyce:

"It was a hard-fought game - not a lot of clear-cut chances, a lot of effort, endeavour, commitment, fight.

"Probably it was a fair result on the day. There was a lot of good defending in there from both teams."

    Preston boss Simon Grayson:

"We need to give Wigan a lot of credit as they worked very hard - they pressed and worked us, and we didn't have that quality in the final third that we've had in the last few games.

"That comes with the pitch being difficult, three games in a week, and we chopped and changed it to get something out of the game."
