Just saw this mate. He is full of confidence in a poorer Sheffield Wed team. Has more to offer than Dozy
I think Poyet's had enough now after Jozys inability to score against lesser opposition at the weekend. We're at a critical point of the season now, we havent got time to wait for Jozy to find his scoring boots!
I think after yet another inept display on Saturday Gus has had enough and is taking JA out of the (non) firing line. Given we are paper thin after letting Ji go we need him back anyway if we aren't getting another body in before the end of the window. BUT - if we don't up the tempo and start delivering decent service and support to a lone striker it doesn't matter who's up there, they will be isolated and ineffective.
I think Gus was always going to bring him back.he may be used for our fight for survival.he was never allowed to play in Sheffield weds cup matches.with altidore not playing so well we may see a bit more of wickham
Question now he's been recalled.if we buy a centre forward.can wickham be loaned out again to any team
I thought this may happen when he was refused permission to play in the FA cup for Wednesday. As has been said Gus may now be thinking what to do about Altidore.
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet admits that Jozy Altidore is 'struggling' at the moment, but has vowed not to give up on the striker. Altidore has found goals hard to come by since his summer move to Wearside, and his form has slowly disintegrated since early promise too, culminating in a pretty hapless display against Kidderminster in the FA Cup fourth round. Like everyone else, Poyet is finding the situation impossible to dismiss, but plans to work with the American. He told the Sunderland Echo: Jozy is struggling a little bit. I thought the Kidderminster game was a great opportunity for him to go on and score a few, but it wasn't to be. We will try to put it right. In many ways, I do have a little sympathy for Altidore. He was signed in the summer to play a very specific system that was all about getting the ball forward quickly to a front two. It was a similar system that he found so much success being a part of in Holland. What he is being asked to do now, though, is almost the polar opposite. Now he plays up front on his own whilst possession football is being played behind him. I am not convinced that he understands the demands and responsibilities of the role at all. But he possibly could - in time. Time may not be on his side, though. Nacho Scocco is looking likely to arrive this week, and Poyet has also admitted he is considering the option of deploying Fabio Borini in a central role: Playing him [Borini] through the middle is something we have been considering. It is on our minds. I'd personally be very much against moving Borini from his current position, though. His work rate without the ball is incredible, and his movement coming in from the flank is aligning very well with Johnson's left foot from the right. That combination is looking a very good one at the moment. Options, and stuff, but I'd not be giving up on Altidore yet. He could probably do with some time out of the firing line, though.
Lets face it, he couldn't be any worse than Jozy could he? if he gets us 2 goals between now and the end of the season he's beaten Jozie's goals per game ratio.
Thats entirley it. Jozy style of play isn't the same as his previous club and hes struggling. its a shame that he doesnt want borini in the middle, but obviously gus thinks Gaic's work rate isn't good enough for him to fill the LM/LW spot.
Why would we stop him playing in the cups if we're planning on selling him anyway? I don;t see it personally - I think he'll come back and be our player to turn to. As good as Ings at that level and highly thought of previously by a number of big clubs. Never had a prolonged chance at Sunderland so maybe this is his time
I'd be inclined to send Jozy on loan to the Championship. If he gets a few goals he may come back with some confidence, if not, then sell. His goals record in Holland & for the USA suggest he surely can't be as inept as he looks, maybe he just needs a kick start. Also, there has just been several pigs flying past my window, and Cheryl Cole is piping me off as we speak...
Cant believe all those one on ones Altidore missed.....and don't get me started on the dozens of crosses into the box that he failed to get on the end of.................. Never has a player had less support on or off the pitch.
